Identifying Gifted And Talented English Language Learners: A Case Study, Bryn Harris, Jonathan Plucker, Kelly Rapp, Rebecca Martinez
Identifying Gifted And Talented English Language Learners: A Case Study, Bryn Harris, Jonathan Plucker, Kelly Rapp, Rebecca Martinez
Bryn Harris
With the sharp rise in students who are English language learners (ELL), research on identifying and serving the needs of gifted and talented (GT) ELL students offers fertile ground for best practice guidelines. The current study describes GT/ELL identification practices based on an in-depth case study of one diverse school district in the Midwest. School personnel, parents, and students participated in separate semistructured group interviews about their experiences regarding GT/ELL identification. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed, and analyzed for thematic content. Additionally, district and state policy documents about GT and ELL identification practices were reviewed. Results highlight the theoretical and practical …
Creating The Marketing Executive Of The Future Using Key Deming Principles, Francis Petit
Creating The Marketing Executive Of The Future Using Key Deming Principles, Francis Petit
Journal of Executive Education
The academic literature is robust in terms of how organizations can improve its innovation, sales and new product development processes as well as its marketing management program. Yet very little has been written on the methods in which organizations can cultivate and develop future marketing leaders. With this as a background, the purpose of this research is twofold. It will first link the overlap that exists between the Deming Philosophy of Management with specific marketing management frameworks within the literature. It will then analyze principles within Deming’s 14 Points and how essential they are in creating future marketing executives. The …
The Challenges Of Implementing Best Practices: Implications For Teachers And Teacher Education, Jacquelyn Urbani
The Challenges Of Implementing Best Practices: Implications For Teachers And Teacher Education, Jacquelyn Urbani
Education | Faculty Conference Presentations
One of the most challenging aspects of teacher education is translating theory and research into practice for emerging teachers. As teacher educators, we are responsible to stay abreast of research and articulate how to implement interventions and strategies within the classroom. This session will review how research intended to bring best practices to special education classrooms revealed significant gaps in both knowledge and practical experience in teacher education programs.
The study was undertaken to investigate a specific shared reading intervention, dialogic reading, for the purposes of addressing the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students (hereafter DHH) in …
The Community College Baccalaureate: A Mixed Methods Study Of Implementation And Best Practices, Stan E. Essink
The Community College Baccalaureate: A Mixed Methods Study Of Implementation And Best Practices, Stan E. Essink
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Community colleges have a number of missions ranging from developmental education through academic transfer. They are obligated to provide higher education opportunities in a manner that is affordable, accessible, and adaptable to the changing needs of their constituents. As the mission of community colleges continues to evolve, several states have interpreted this mission to include baccalaureate programming.
This study employed a mixed methods approach to understanding the best practices of implementing and offering bachelor’s degrees through community colleges. The objectives of the research were to determine the influences affecting implementation of bachelor’s degrees, to examine resulting institutional change, and to …
Best Practices For Student Success On The Act, Grant Coday Boyer
Best Practices For Student Success On The Act, Grant Coday Boyer
Dissertations
Large achievement gaps have been found in ACT scores between high schools throughout the same state and in comparisons between states. In Missouri, four public high schools have consistently scored four points higher than the Missouri average for years 2007-2011. States, such as Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa, have shown consistent above average scores as compared to states with similar participation numbers throughout the nation. Schmoker (2006) believed that due to the existing culture of schools and school leadership, learning from others’ successes is often discouraged; therefore, this study was conducted in an attempt to discover the best practices used in …

An Analysis Of Institutional Policies And Practices Critical For Effective Leadership In Developmental Education Programs, Carolyn Gaughan Sizemore
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The purpose of this study was to identify the most critical institutional policies and practices deemed essential for the effective development and governance of systemic, effective developmental education programs in community colleges through the perspective of community college administrators. This study ranked community college leaders’ ratings of what policies and practices should be implemented to improve developmental education programs. Expert opinion by the participating developmental education administrators and college presidents were compared and ranked to identify priorities for change. The Role Of Program Evaluations In Improving And Sustaining State-Supported School Counseling Programs: A Cross Case Analysis Of Best Practices, Ian Monteg Martin
Open Access Dissertations
Recent work has shown that many state supported school counseling programs have not developed working statewide program evaluation schemas. This study examined two exemplary examples of state level program evaluation. Mixed-method case studies were created and then analyzed across cases to reveal common themes and best practices. The findings indicated that these cases were able to build statewide evaluation capacity within very different contexts.
Blended-Art At The Kindergarten Level, Jessica E. Sill
Blended-Art At The Kindergarten Level, Jessica E. Sill
Dissertations, Masters Theses, Capstones, and Culminating Projects
A foundational research assumption for this project is that the combination of open-ended-art and structured-art will enhance the development of the kindergartener. In today's standards driven classroom environment, art is often overlooked in place of text based curriculum. The idea of this project is to blend two approaches to teaching art and intertwine this approach into the rigorous daily curriculum. The deficits in each approach will be covered by the other, thereby providing opportunity for all students to reap the benefits. The purpose of this endeavor is to determine the positive and negative effects of blended-art, a combination of open-ended-art …

Technology And Teacher Preparation In Exemplary Institutions: 1994 To 2003, Mark J. Hofer
Articles
In a 1994 study commissioned by the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, Mergendoller, Johnston, Rockman, & Willis (1994) examined four exemplary institutions to identify their approaches to integrating technology into teacher education. A decade later, the field would benefit from a comparison of current approaches of infusing technology into teacher education to the 1994 findings. This study examines the approaches of the first seven teacher education programs to receive the ISTE NETS Distinguished Achievement Award. Current approaches to the process are outlined, including the identification of the key factors impacting their implementation. A comparison of the 1994 and the present …

Coming Together While Falling Apart: Networking To Prevent Conflict, Yvonne Shanahan
Master's Capstone Projects
This paper is based on a consultancy evaluation conducted in 2002 for an international network on early warning and early response to conflict. The author of this paper was the lead consultant. The work of the consultancy has been subsequently developed as a case study in this paper.
A growth in networks as an organizational form and rising currency for knowledge are beginning to stimulate the demand for an evolution of evaluation approaches that will capture key learning and outline strategies for the development of networks on conflict prevention. The research of this paper seeks to capture key reflections on …
