The Impact Of Peer-Mediated Instruction For Students With Disabilities In The Inclusive Early Childhood Classroom, Amanda Smith
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
The purpose of this action research project is to determine the impact of explicit instruction of peer-mediated strategies for students who have disabilities but who are not on the autism spectrum in the inclusive preschool classroom environment. There has been a large amount of research surrounding peer-mediated strategies and how students on the autism spectrum benefit from it, but there has been very minimal research that includes students with disabilities who are not on the spectrum. Data was collected to determine what the effect that this intervention had on four students in the areas of social behavior and social communication. …

Honors Expanded Learning Clubs
Encourage learning about complex, confusing, or even just random topics that were covered in fictional stories. Later on, shift the narrative from "discover new topics from what we are reading" to "what is the author trying to say here? What was their intent? What clues is the author giving us, and what do you think will happen next in the story?". This brings elementary schoolers a first interaction with deeper English themes, such as author's intent, at a low-stakes interaction to build confidence in the works and in themselves.

Abstract
In order to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of an active learning event during a panel presentation at an academic conference, Mercer University librarians presenting at the Georgia Libraries Conference switched the traditional way panel presentations are modeled. Instead of the question and answer session following a brief overview of the presentation, we moved our physical position in the room, closer to the participants in order to have a more intimate conversation with attendees. Using two active learning techniques, discussion and brainstorming, the presenters started a conversation with attendees about project ideas involving teaching faculty members, librarians, and students …

Title III Professional Development Reports
This blog reflects on general teaching principles commonly known, but also many times overlooked. Keeping teaching simple - to best engage students in the learning process - helps to recenter and refocus processes that sometimes feel convoluted or over-done. This opportunity helped me to focus my attention back to the most basic points that will help my students be successful learners in any course.

Instructor Beliefs Related To Technology Use After Professional Development, Bethany Ann Croton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Faculty in higher education often see themselves as researchers and identify less as instructors. The problem is that nearly every profession has embraced technology in new ways, except in the world of education and students need 21st-century skills to be competitive in the workforce. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore instructors' lived experiences and beliefs regarding teaching and technology integration before, during, and after completion of a professional development program at a Midwestern Tier 1 research institute. The study was framed by Rogers's diffusion of innovation theory and the sustainability education academic development framework. The research …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Phase One of this project, conducted during the 2019 academic year, used an A-B-A withdrawal design to rotate (terms 2, 3 and 4) the furniture in five primary school classrooms1 from ‘innovative’ to ‘traditional’ furniture arrangements2. Three-weekly repeated measures were taken across the year of (1) student perceptions of their cognitive and behavioural engagement, (2) teacher actions in these classrooms, and (3) photographs by students of their preferred furniture, with annotations explaining this preference. Once-a-term measures included (4) teachers completing a Teacher Mind Frames survey, and (5) teachers participating in a structured interview with the researchers...

Professional Learning Communities In An Elementary School: Teacher Perceptions, Implementation, And Impacts, Michael Garvin
West Chester University Doctoral Projects
The Every Student Succeeds Act (2015), signed into law by President Obama, reauthorized the elementary and secondary education act for K-12 students across the nation. A main component of ESSA resides with the professional development of teachers and administrators. The definition of teacher professional development by Learning Forward (2017) involves a sustained professional learning community (PLC) which is collaborative, intensive, job-embedded, and data driven. The idea of PLCs as a means of teacher professional development is the current popular trend amongst K-12 education (DuFour, 2004). PLCs are creating opportunities for teachers to collaborate regarding many aspects of the education profession. …
An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Of Teachers' Perspectives Of Differentiated Instruction In K-3 Inclusion Classrooms, Julie Franklin
An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Of Teachers' Perspectives Of Differentiated Instruction In K-3 Inclusion Classrooms, Julie Franklin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers have addressed teachers' perspectives of differentiated instruction or teachers' perspectives on inclusion classrooms, but there was limited research on the combined topics of teachers' perspectives of differentiated instruction in inclusion classrooms. This interpretative phenomenological analysis used one to one interviews and reflective journals to explore nine teachers' perspectives of differentiated instruction in K-3 inclusion classrooms. The study's conceptual framework was comprised of Vygotsky's social constructivist theory and Piaget's theory of cognitive development. The research question and sub-questions asked about the challenges and successes teachers encountered in planning and implementing differentiated instruction in K-3 inclusion classrooms, and what teachers believed …

The Impact Of Technology Enhanced Learning On Pedagogy: A Case Study, Seth James Ismil
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite the growing trend of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) tools being integrated into pedagogy, there have been challenges preventing the transformation of pedagogy. This has included limited research on understanding why the increase in TEL integration has not resulted in movement from replacing to transforming pedagogy. The purpose of this qualitative explanatory single case study was to determine why teachers integrating TEL tools and applications have not done so in a way that transforms how teaching and learning occur. The conceptual framework of replacement, amplification, and transformation was used to examine levels of integration in this study. Participants were seven teachers …
