While many consider college students to be digital natives, who are at ease with multiple forms of technology, many of these students do not adapt these skills for academic purposes. Retention concerns for college students often prompt support staff to seek out and adopt technology approaches to promote completion. This study provided a virtual learning platform to deliver academic support and sought to promote learning community interaction for rural and urban post-secondary students. The Impact Of A Collaborative Data-Inquiry Culture, As Promoted By The Harvard University Data Wise Improvement Process, On Student Achievement., Kenneth I. Barrie

The study examined the impact of a collaborative data-inquiry culture, promoted by the Harvard University Data Wise Improvement Process (DWIP), on student achievement. 58 teacher surveys and PARCC scores for 2, 631 students were taken from four middle schools in a minority district. A quantitative method and a quasi-experimental one-sample-pretest-posttest design were used. Analysis involved Chi-Squared tests followed by pairwise comparisons. Statistical significance was determined using standard alpha of p ppppppp< 0.00556. Future research should focus on a larger school sample, data on the student level, and the impact of the DWIP on school culture.

The purpose of this quantitative retrospective, causal-comparative study was to examine what, if any, statistically significant difference existed between Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) mathematical and reading achievement of English Language Learners (ELL) in a school using Seesaw—a social media platform—and those in a school not using Seesaw in an elementary school setting in Northern California. The population of ELL third and fourth-grade students within each participating school was 52, for a total of 104 participants. All ELL students in this study come from Spanish speaking homes and were Spanish speakers. Collection of data occurred through the MAP Growth assessments. …

The influence of online education on higher education fundraising practices and giving patterns is not well understood. This qualitative case study explored how fundraising managers perceived the impact of online education on higher education fundraising. To explore this phenomenon, the researcher interviewed fundraising managers at private, nonprofit colleges and universities in the western United States, and reviewed publicly available documents on the participant schools fundraising and financial information. The interviews demonstrated that study participants were concerned about connecting with graduates of online programs, and perceived that online students may have less affinity for their alma mater than on-ground alumni. This qualitative case study illustrated perceptions of seven fine arts teachers who were veteran participants in an ePortfolio evaluation method (with three or more years participation). The research questions centered on professional growth, reflection, and the impact ePortfolio had on the craft of teaching. A blended conceptual framework of Schön’s (1983, 1987) theory of reflection-in-action and reflection-on-action, and Mezirow’s (1991) transformative learning theory was applied to analyze the data. There is uncertainty on how to maximize freshman performance in an English course when students have competing placement scores. Students who have scored above the cutoff score on one of the English placement tests (either reading or writing) and scored below the cutoff score on the other are not systematically placed. Runway incursions are a major threat to aviation safety and can cause major delays and collisions that have significant human and financial implications for airlines. This study investigated how training, education, and collaboration may be improved to reduce the occurrence of runway incursions at airports. Data collection involved interviews, a focus group, and document analysis to explore the participants’ perceptions. In this study, motivational levels and self-efficacy of educators are assessed as a case study. Twenty-two participants were divided into three subgroups engaged in the study. The subgroups included a group of teacher candidates who had recently declared their majors, a group of teacher candidates who had completed all of their coursework, and a group of veteran teachers who had completed a formal teacher education evaluation system. An academic motivational scale was administered to determine if the participants are extrinsically or intrinsically motivated to be an educator. The primary purpose of the study was to determine whether there is a relationship between self-efficacy of international algebra teachers and their level of incorporating technology in teaching factoring quadratic functions to introductory algebra students. The purpose of this qualitative, single-embedded multiple-case study was to explore the perceptions of teachers’ working in a transformational and distributed leadership style at a large comprehensive rural high school in South Central Texas. The research was conducted on a campus that has a total teaching staff of 170 and serves approximately 2,000 socioeconomically and racially diverse students. The sample consisted of 15 teachers, approximately one third of the purposive sample pool, with 1–6 years of teaching experience.
