The job of the professional educator is becoming ever more complex. Research has shown that effective teacher evaluation processes and collegial relationships between the teacher and the principal both positively impact student achievement. This study investigates how a collaborative teacher evaluation process effects collegiality between the teacher and the site administrator. Four teachers who had experienced both traditional and collaborative reviews in a small rural school district in Northern California were interviewed to assess the impact that a collaborative evaluation had on their professional relationship with their principal.

State and national education initiatives are the driving force behind increased exploration of diverse texts, namely informational texts. Trade books offer opportunity for interdisciplinary units to develop through the rise of informational text use in both English/language arts and history/social studies. Primary source documents serve as a liaison to filing gaps in the information left out from textbooks and trade books. A more thorough understanding of historical figures and events are a result of such analysis. As teachers learn to adjust to the Common Core State Standards, they are left with little to no time for subjects like science and social studies. History is slowly falling by the wayside in elementary classrooms across the country, including the studies of the people who helped shape our nation. This study analyzes a data sample of 32 primary and intermediate level trade books about George Washington, our first president, in search of patterns and misrepresentations. This study analyzed students' use of diverse sources for a history-based writing assignment on Abraham Lincoln. Participants includes 41 students in a fifth grade self-contained classroom in rural Illinois. The study was conducted during students' 30-minute writing period, every day for six weeks. During this time period, students close-read trade books and primary sources to collect research on Lincoln. Students also gathered additional information during their field trip to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Students synthesized their information from the various sources and organized the notes to write an informational, history-based writing piece on Lincoln. Students were required …

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา 2) เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษากับพฤติกรรมการสอนของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา และ 3) เพื่อสังเคราะห์แนวทางการหล่อหลอมความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา มีแบบแผนการวิจัยเป็นวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน ประกอบด้วย การวิจัยเชิงปริมาณและการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ กลุ่มตัวอย่างการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ คือ นิสิตนักศึกษาครูชั้นปีที่ 5 สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา จำนวน 274 คน โดยใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบหลายขั้นตอน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถาม กลุ่มตัวอย่างการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ คือ อาจารย์มหาวิทยาลัยประจำสาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการหาค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าร้อยละ ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และหาค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษามีแนวโน้มไปทางความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาพิพัฒนนิยมมากที่สุด อันดับรองลงมา ได้แก่ อัตถิภาวนิยม นิรันตรนิยม ปฏิรูปนิยม และสารัตถนิยม ตามลำดับ 2) ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาในแต่ละสาขาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษาไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาในสาขาเดียวกัน นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาปฏิรูปนิยม มีความสัมพันธ์ในทางบวกกับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาสารัตถนิยมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 และความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาอัตถิภาวนิยม มีความสัมพันธ์ในทางลบกับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาสารัตถนิยมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .01 และ 3) พบว่า มีการนำแนวคิดทางปรัชญาการศึกษาพิพัฒนนิยมมาเป็นแนวทางในการจัดการศึกษา โดยหล่อหลอมผ่านกิจกรรมการลงมือปฏิบัติจริง ผลที่เกิดขึ้นส่วนใหญ่สอดคล้องกับปรัชญาของหลักสูตรและความคาดหวังของรายวิชา ซึ่งถือว่าได้ผลสำเร็จในภาพรวม

This applied dissertation was designed to evaluate the I-station adaptive reading program and determine its impact on reading proficiency of third-grade students. The school of study was a Title I school with proficiency rates for third-grade students of about 40% annually. The district recommendation for student usage mirrored the recommended minutes per week established by Imagination Station, the I-station parent company.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program [IB PYP] is a student-driven, inquiry-based elementary school level educational program that has grown rapidly in the United States since its creation in 1997. This study explores how IB PYP art teachers define and implement inquiry-based instructional methods in their art rooms through a nation-wide, online survey of art teachers, coordinators, and administrators. The Survey consists of 22 questions which ask respondents to describe their classroom practices and provide examples of how they make use of inquiry-based methods in the art room. Reading comprehension is a skill that effects future employment and income. However it is an ability that children with various disabilities struggle with. Researchers suggest that instruction in the use of reading comprehension strategies may improve understanding of texts. Furthermore, book clubs might serve as a vehicle to deliver this instruction in a natural setting. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of book clubs on the reading comprehension strategy use of children with disabilities.
