Review: Adjectives Forms;First, Second, And Third Forms, Kate Garrison
Open Educational Resources
This worksheet offers a quick, five minute review of positive, comparative, and superlative forms of adjectives and models for correct usage. Sometimes students will apply the "add er" rule to all adjectives in the superlative form, even those of three or more syllables that require only "more." Sometimes students will confuse "than" and "then" when making a comparison.

Psychological Inflexibility And Stigma: A Meta-Analytic Review, Jennifer Krafft, Jillian Ferrell, Michael E. Levin, Michael P. Twohig
Psychology Faculty Publications
Stigma is known to have major impacts on the physical and psychological health of many groups. Psychological inflexibility is a psychological process that may help explain the impact of stigma on both self and others. Accordingly, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), which targets psychological inflexibility, has been researched as a potential treatment for stigma. In order to provide a comprehensive overview of these issues, this paper offers a systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between psychological inflexibility and stigma, as well as a systematic review of ACT interventions for stigma. The results of the meta-analysis showed a positive, medium-to-large …

Confianza En Mis Habilidades (9th-11th Grade), Haley Hansen
Understanding by Design: Complete Collection
This unit, “Confianza en mis habilidades” or “Confidence in my abilities,” is designed for the beginning of the school year in a Spanish 3 classroom for non-native speakers. The unit focuses on reviewing previously learned vocabulary including descriptions, activities, and places and previously learned grammar including the present tense and reflexive verbs. This unit is intended to remind students what they have already learned in Spanish 1 and in Spanish 2 and to help connect them to what they will be learning in Spanish 3. It will serve as the foundation for which we build upon throughout the year. Students …

Hrec Members' Personal Values Influence Decision Making In Contentious Cases, Boris Handal, Kevin Watson, Keagan Brewer, Marc Fellman, Marguerite Maher
Education Papers and Journal Articles
This article identifies 14 contentious issues faced by Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs). The authors argue that HREC members will respond variably to these issues based on their own fundamental values and worldview. In particular, we propose that personal interpretations of current ethics regulations and HREC members’ attitudes to consequentialism, Kantianism, and utilitarianism in some cases affect their responses to contentious research issues. We seek to promote understanding of how personal and professional backgrounds of HREC reviewers influence their approaches to value-laden issues embedded in ethics applications. Taking the form of a literature review, our contribution highlights the need for …

What’S To Be Learned? A Review Of Sociocultural Digital Literacies Research Within Pre-Service Teacher Education, Ana Karina De Oliveira Nascimento, Michele Knobel
Department of Teaching and Learning Scholarship and Creative Works
This circumscribed review analyzes recent sociocultural, qualitative research in digital literacies within pre-service teacher education. It focuses on what teacher educators are doing with respect to working with pre-service teacher education students and digital literacies conceived more in terms of social practices than as proficiency in using education technology tools. Analysis suggests digital literacies within pre-service teacher education are typically linked to out-of-school practices in order to help facilitate student teachers' take-up of digital literacies in their own classrooms. The studies also suggest that projects that encourage and support collaboration are well received by pre-service teachers and seem to result …

Background: Patients and their families have become more active in healthcare systems and research. The value of patient involvement is particularly relevant in the area of rare diseases, where patients face delayed diagnoses and limited access to effective therapies due to the high level of uncertainty in market approval and reimbursement decisions. It has been suggested that patient involvement may help to reduce some of these uncertainties. This review explored existing and proposed roles for patients, families, and patient organizations at each stage of the lifecycle of therapies for rare diseases (i.e., orphan drug lifecycle). Methods: A scoping review was …

The Impact Of Structured Physical Activity On Glycaemic Control In Diabetes Prevention Programs: A Systematic Review, Joseph Edwards, Hassan Hosseinzadeh
Faculty of Social Sciences - Papers (Archive)
Background: Seven landmark randomised controlled trials, with some that began as early as the 1990s, observed the prediabetic state, namely, impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glucose conditions, against the impact of lifestyle interventions such as physical activity, to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition to the landmark trials, this systematic review examines 14 studies that retained a focus on prediabetic individuals and measured the efficacy of physical activity on improving glucose tolerance. Results: Type, duration and intensity of structured physical activity can have unique benefits to prediabetic individuals. It is posited that diabetes …

2015 Taylor & Francis This paper provides a selective review of cognitive and psychological flexibility in the context of treatment for psychological distress after traumatic brain injury, with a focus on acceptance-based therapies. Cognitive flexibility is a component of executive function that is referred to mostly in the context of neuropsychological research and practice. Psychological flexibility, from a clinical psychology perspective, is linked to health and well-being and is an identified treatment outcome for therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). There are a number of overlaps between the constructs. They both manifest in the ability to change behaviour …
