Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
This work builds upon an analysis of regional universities that began in 2009, to build a geographically-based, quantifiable definition of the nation's regional universities. It builds on efforts begun by Katsinas (1993) to geographically map access oriented community colleges, which resulted in the geographic coding of Associate's Colleges as part of the 2005 and 2010 Basic Classification of Institutions of Higher Education published by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (Katsinas, Lacey, & Hardy, 2005).

Learning Showcase 2016: A Celebration of Discovery, Transformation and Success
In order to enhance student experiential learning, Franklin University's Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics continued its third year efforts in participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in 2016, in conjunction with United Way's Tax Time Coalition of Central Ohio and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The VITA program prepares free federal and state tax returns for low to moderate income taxpayers in the central Ohio community. During the 2016 tax season, 14 volunteer undergraduate students, alumni and administrative personnel were trained and received IRS certification to serve the community; the efforts of the volunteers in the …

Case Selection: A Case For A New Approach, Timothy L. Harper, Mary E. Taber, Barbara P. Norelli
Barbara Norelli
While conducting empirical research regarding the relationship between case characteristics and student performance, the authors were surprised to find a lack of conceptual and empirical research regarding instructor case selection. This conceptual paper explores the case selection process and introduces case selection as an under-investigated component of the case teaching method in management education. Case selection is important because it is a critical component of the case teaching method. There has been no empirical testing of the effectiveness of case selection technique. The authors identify and propose case selection criteria for instructors of management education.

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
The GenCyber program is jointly sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to help faculty and cybersecurity experts provide summer cybersecurity camp experiences for K-12 students and teachers. The main objective of the program is to attract, educate, and motivate a new generation of young men and women to help address the nationwide shortage of trained cybersecurity professionals. The curriculum is flexible and centers on ten cybersecurity first principles. Currently, GenCyber provides cyber camp options for three types of audiences: students, teachers, and a combination of both teachers and students. In 2016, over 120 …

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
The Internet of Things (IoTs) is becoming a reality in today’s society. The IoTs can find its application in multiple domains including healthcare, critical infrastructure, transportation, and home and personal use. It is important to teach students importance and techniques that are essential in protecting IoTs. We design a series of hands-on labs in a smart home setting, which can exercise attack and protection of IoTs. Our hands-on labs use a Raspberry Pi and several diverse smart things that communicate through Z-Wave technology. Using this environment, students can operate a home automation system and learn security concepts by performing these …

Teaching Static Call Analysis To Detect Anomalous Software Behavior, Jordan Shropshire, Philip Menard
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Malicious code detection is a critical part of any cyber security operation. Typically, the behavior of normal applications is modeled so that deviations from normal behavior can be identified. There are multiple approach to modeling good behavior but the most common approach is to observe applications’ system call activity. System calls are messages passed between user space applications and their underlying operating systems. The detection of irregular system call activity signals the presence of malicious software behavior. This method of malware-detection has been used successfully for almost two decades. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to cover this concept at the …

Conclusion
By many different measures, rural Nebraskans are positive about their community. Many rural Nebraskans rate their community favorably on its social dimensions: as friendly, trusting and supportive. Most rural Nebraskans say it would be difficult to leave their community. And, most rural Nebraskans disagree that their community is powerless to control its future.
Across all years of this study, rural Nebraskans’ views about the change in their community have generally been positive. The proportion believing their community has changed for the better during the past year has usually been greater than the proportion believing it has changed for the …

Counseling & Student Affairs Faculty Publications
The demands and expectations placed on student affairs professionals can lead to stress, burnout, a lack of work-life balance, and decreased job satisfactions. Accordingly, it could be beneficial to teach graduate students and professionals in student affairs graduate preparation program how to use self-care practices focusing on mindfulness. Paths To Leadership Of Ncaa Division I Female Athletic Directors, Haley Blount Taitano
Paths To Leadership Of Ncaa Division I Female Athletic Directors, Haley Blount Taitano
Doctoral Dissertations
The focus of this study was to examine the paths to leadership of NCAA Division I female athletic directors. Over forty years after passing Title IX of the Education Amendments Act, female athletic directors still make up less than 10% of NCAA Division I athletic directors. This stagnant statistic along with a limited amount of existing research on the subject were the main catalysts for this investigation.
This study examined the career paths of eight NCAA Division I female athletic directors, paying particular attention to their personal and professional experiences that led to becoming a Division I athletic director. Critical …
