The increasing rate of the Muslim population in Canada suggests the need to gain a better understanding of the cultural influences of Islamic faith and health related perceptions. Although research has been done in exploring the experiences of Muslim women, much of this work has been focused on the experiences of Muslim women as recipients of healthcare or in different professional settings, with little attention paid to the challenges Muslim women face as service providers within the Canadian healthcare. The Honduran Mission Team-New Hampshire (HMT-NH) in partnership with the Olancho Aid Foundation (OAF), works in the Olancho department to improve the health and education of the Honduran people. The HMT-NH 2012 Healthcare Team included UMass Boston faculty and a nursing student working with American and Honduran doctors and nurses to provide culturally-appropriate healthcare and collect data about the needs of the Honduran people in Olancho.

Background
Governments and other payers are yet to determine optimal processes by which to review the safety, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of technologies and procedures that are in active use within health systems, and rescind funding (partially or fully) from those that display poor profiles against these parameters. To further progress a disinvestment agenda, a model is required to support payers in implementing disinvestment in a transparent manner that may withstand challenge from vested interests and concerned citizens.
