This study used subjects participating in courses offered via the statewide Louisiana Compressed Video Network for the purpose of analyzing the relationship between student perception of interaction and student satisfaction. A correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between student perception of interaction (sixteen interaction directionalities) and student course satisfaction (including instructional, technical, and overall satisfaction). Data were collected using the Compressed Video Student Perception of Interaction Scale and the Compressed Video Course Student Satisfaction Scale. The nine correlations used to answer the nine research questions resulted in a considerable number of significant correlations. The data generally indicated that …

With the increased attention to, and interest in, Distance Education/Online courses by academic institutions, students, and faculty, there is a concomitant increase in the difficulty of assessing the integrity of the assignments produced by students. Academic institutions see the opportunity for increased enrollment without an increase in campus facilities. Students appreciate the flexibility in scheduling and the self-paced opportunity while faculty may have mixed feeling about the drawn out interaction with and between students and the lack of assurance that assignments submitted are truly the work of the respective student. This thesis describes the development of the application mapCAST, a computer-based concept-mapping tool that allows synchronous collaboration via TCP/IP networks, such as the Internet The useability and feasibility of mapCAST as a computer-based tool was examined and analysed in a real world situation. Results indicate that mapCAST is successful as a collaborative tool in a situations involving knowledge organisation, but lacks certain functionality that many Macintosh users are accustomed to.

The main advantages and disadvantages of the Telematics environment for talented mathematics students were investigated through a case study. The case study considered the interaction of, and opinions of 11 Year 9 students and the teacher/researcher. Participants were from nine schools in regional Western Australia, and were withdrawn from face-to-face classes to attend mathematics transmissions. Qualitative data were collected through student interviews, an anonymous questionnaire, tape recording of lessons, and teacher field notes. Students all agreed the main disadvantage occurred if timetabling for Telematics transmissions did not align with their local school class times for the same subject. The teacher …
