Students' Perception Of Teacher Expectation In A Co-Educational Physical Activity Class, Cari Robin Turner Jul 1994

Students' Perception Of Teacher Expectation In A Co-Educational Physical Activity Class, Cari Robin Turner

Student Work

The purpose of this study was to determine if a gender difference exists between students perception of male and female teacher expectation. Student perceptions were determined by administering the Student Perception Inventory (SPI) developed by McBride (1990). Three high schools and five junior high schools which included 15 teachers participated in the study. All students who participated were enrolled in co-educational physical activity classes. All students were surveyed at the beginning of the class period. There were 363 students surveyed. Of the 363 students surveyed, 342 were considered usable. Analysis of the data included frequency and percentage of response, as …

Influence Of Reduced Leaching On Growth Of Seedlings Of Black Locust Inoculated With Rhizobia, William R. Graves, Sandra R. Anfinson Jan 1994

Influence Of Reduced Leaching On Growth Of Seedlings Of Black Locust Inoculated With Rhizobia, William R. Graves, Sandra R. Anfinson

Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS

Seedlings of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) were inoculated with compatible rhizobia and irrigated twice each week with solution containing either 50 or 150 mg nitrogen/L. Leaching fraction treatments of 0, 0.2, or 0.4 were maintained for 6 weeks. Seedlings supplied 50 mg nitrogen/L grew poorly compared co planes supplied 150 mg nitrogen/L regardless of leaching fraction. Dry masses of shoots and of entire planes were lower for seedlings in the 0 and 0.2 leaching fraction treatments compared with chose in the 0.4 treatment. Neither leaching fraction nor applied nitrogen concentration appeared co affect the number of nodules per plant, …

Age And Developmental History Of Iowa Fens, C. A. Thompson, E. A. Bettis Iii Jan 1994

Age And Developmental History Of Iowa Fens, C. A. Thompson, E. A. Bettis Iii

Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS

Iowa fens are small, mineorotrophic peatlands maintained by shallow groundwater. Eighteen fen sites located across northern Iowa were mapped and radiocarbon dated to assess the timing of initial peat accumulation. The radiocarbon ages span the Holocene, ranging from 1,240 to 10,900 B.P.; however most fens postdate 5,000 yr B.P. The dominance of late-Holocene ages suggests that Holocene climatic change may have strongly influenced the record of peat accumulation. During the mid-Holocene Iowa was warmer and drier than at present, and peat was degraded or accumulated slowly in fens. The range of ages also implies that the commencement and subsequent rate …

Nf94-128 Observations From Anthrax Outbreak In Sheridan County Herd, John Gamby, Roger Sahara, Dale Grotelueschen

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Anthrax killed 23 head of cows and calves on a Sheridan county Nebraska ranch in June 1994. Bacillus anthracis was confirmed on culture by the Panhandle Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Scottsbluff, Nebraska and the National Veterinary Services Laboratory, Ames, Iowa. The following observations from this case are offered to veterinary practitioners encountering herds where anthrax is a part of the differential diagnosis. Please consult textbooks for specifics regarding this disease.

G94-1202 Vaccination Guide For The Small Poultry Flock, Eva Wallner-Pendleton Jan 1994

G94-1202 Vaccination Guide For The Small Poultry Flock, Eva Wallner-Pendleton

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide will help the small flock owner decide whether vaccinations might help prevent disease in the flock. Types of vaccines and methods of application are also discussed.

Vaccines are widely used by the livestock industry to prevent diseases. Commercial poultry (farms with greater than 5,000 birds) are almost universally vaccinated against a variety of diseases. Preventative vaccinations have resulted in increased health and improved production efficiency in the poultry industry.

Nf94-204 Computing The Dollar Value Of Concentrates And Byproduct Feeds For Dairy Cattle, Rick Grant Jan 1994

Nf94-204 Computing The Dollar Value Of Concentrates And Byproduct Feeds For Dairy Cattle, Rick Grant

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Feed costs represent 50 to 60 percent of variable milk production costs. Consequently, feed costs play a major role in determining the profitability of a dairy enterprise. Specifically, a producer should focus on "income above feed costs" to assess total feeding system profitability.
