An Analysis Of Fifty-One Computer Modules Designed To Enhance The Knowledge, Skills, And Attitudes Needed By Teacher Education Students , Patricia Crenshaw Elmore

This dissertation analyzes and reports the findings of student reactions to a set of 51 computer modules called Performance Element Modules (PEMs). These modules focused on selected knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed by teacher education students at a midwestern university. The major purpose of the study was to assess whether students will accept the 51 computer-assisted modules as viable instructional tools;The questionnaires were designed to collect forced-choice and open-ended data as well as demographic data. This study investigated several dimensions of the educational environment in the homes of third, fourth, and fifth grade students and their relationship to pertinent variables. The instrument used to measure the educational environment in the homes of third, fourth, and fifth grade students was a modified version of the Index of Educational Environment developed by Dave in 1963;The sample in the study consisted of 459 parents and their third, fourth and fifth grade children attending elementary schools located in north central Iowa. School-related stress is the most prevalent untreated cause of academic failure in our schools. Baker (1987) states that this type of stress may afflict six to ten million children per year. There are several types of stress in the educational system. Separation anxiety, test anxiety, and teacher behavior are only a few. For the learning disabled child, along with the aforementioned stressors, there are additional sources of school stress. These include labeling, pull out programs and insufficient social skills. The goal of this study was to explore the role that formal science content education plays in the process of educating future elementary teachers of science. The formal science content preparation of elementary education majors was investigated to explore the relationships between secondary school and college science content preparation and science achievement, attitude toward teaching science, science teaching efficacy, selected science misconceptions, and other demographic variables.
