An Analysis Of Available Selection Factors For Judging The Educational Merit Of Short Duration, Out-Of-House, Management Training Programs For American Corporations, Douglas R. Loomer

The purpose of this research project was twofold. First, to determine which, if any, information items, normally known about short duration out-of-house management training programs (seminars, workshops, etc.) prior to attendance, are indicative of educational merit. Second, to utilize this knowledge of educational merit indicators to test for a difference between the educational merit of out-of-house management training programs provided by (a) academic and (b) nonacademic instructional sources.

A total of 20 program characteristics were identified as indicators of educational merit by a review of literature and/or survey of corporate training officers. Six of these 20 indicators produced a difference …

The purpose of this study was to review the relationship between the operation of a full-time community information/relations program and citizen financial support in Michigan local school districts. The study also identified and investigated model components of successful full-time community information/relations programs.

Financial support records of 11 local school districts identified as operating full-time community information/relations programs (community information/relations districts) were compared to those records established by a comparable sample group of local school districts which did not operate a program (traditional districts) during a five year period, 1977-1982. The purpose of this project was to conduct a limited search for support of adult basic education proposals among 35 private foundations. Questionnaires were sent, seeking information about foundations' attitudes toward adult basic education, target populations, and potential proposals. The results showed a wide range of attitudes, from indifference to cautious interest to enthusiasm. Suggestions for researching potential sources of support are presented along with the responses of the 35 foundations.

The Cost To And The Public Relation Effects Of Federal Education Dollars To The Local School District, Raymond L. Cooper

The costs and public effects of using federal vocational education dollars in the local school district were studied. Twenty-five Washington school districts were randomly selected. Financial data were compiled and a survey distributed to these schools. The results showed increased use of federal vocational monies resulted in increased local administration, as school size decreased use of federal monies decreased, smaller schools spend more money per student, and local advisory committees feel that vocational education needs federal monies.

A contrastive analysis is performed examining similarities and differences of Spanish and English. Theoretical predictions are checked out with actual Spanish speakers learning English. This study investigated a method to compare the effect of verbal language disability on measures of intelligence of young handicapped children. The purpose was to discover whether differences exist in the measures of intelligence when the verbal language requirements of an intelligence test are systematically varied. A random sample of 156 reentry women at Belleville Area College were surveyed, via questionnaire , on their reasons for being in school , goals associated with education, and campus support services utilized or desired. The results indicated that reentry women wanted to become better educated primarily to learn new skills or update skills for employment in a meaningful job. Career fields chosen t ended to be those traditionally dominated by females and t ended to remain within a narrow scope. Health care and secretarial careers were favor ed. This paper surveyed the training methods used to develop student leadership at Bremerton Junior High School, and presents exercises and activities adapted for use by Middle Schools for providing student leadership training.

Results of the study indicate that training methods at Bremerton Junior High were viewed by parents and teaching staff as providing positive learning experiences for the students. Students reported their experiences to be valuable in several key areas: communication, assertiveness, and gaining a better understanding of the key concept of leadership. This study compared an intensive study skills approach with remedial instruction in basic skills for their effects on grade point average of secondary learning disabled students. The experimental group consisted of 12 students, as did the control group. Grade point was tabulated at the onset and conclusion of the study. The statistical analysis consisted of a t-test which showed no significance at the .05 level. The null hypothesis was retained. Discussion follows.

The Cloze Procedure: A Measure Of Reading Comprehension Ability, Theresa Lorene Donaldson

The present study was conducted in order to determine if a relationship exists between those comprehension processes measured by the Paragraph Comprehension subtest of the McGraw-Hill Basic Skills System Reading Test and the cloze test developed for this project. Two classes of undergraduate education majors enrolled in “Foundations of Performance-Based Education” were administered both the cloze test and the multiple choice comprehension test.

A correlation coefficient was computed between the summary scores on the McGraw-Hill and the summary scores on the cloze test. The results yielded a correlation of .021. These results did not support the research hypothesis.

The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of graphic and phonemic similarity on syntactic acceptability. Ten third graders were audio-taped reading material new to them at the end of the 1982-1983 school year. The children were given no assistance. Substitution miscues were recorded and analyzed according to The Goodman Taxonomy of Reading Miscues. Statistical analyses were carried out using the chi-square procedure and contingency coefficients were computed. The results indicate that graphic and phonemic similarity are somewhat related to syntactic acceptability but the relationship is very slight. In the Seventh-day Adventist educational system, a need exists for research concerning the interpersonal relationships between school principals and teachers, particularly regarding the way in which teachers perceive the principal's role. A school principal is in the unique position of being able, independently, to affect the functioning of an entire school staff. The teachers' perceptions of the principal affect their interpersonal relationships and, consequently, the school climate. There is a need to know about this aspect in order to work cut effective ore-service and in-service training for school principals.
