Declining Student Enrollment In Virginia 1972-1981 : An Examination Of Its Extent, State Board Of Education Policies, And Changes Effected By Selected School Divisions, Edward Hughes Pruden

The purposes of the study were to determine: to what extent student enrollment has declined in the state and in local school divisions in Virginia during the decade 1972-1981; what policies, if any, have been enacted by the State Board of Education relative to declining enrollment; and what effect a severely declining enrollment may have had in the areas of formal curriculum, professional personnel, and school organizational patterns and utilization of buildings.;It was found that during the decade studied: (1) statewide enrollment declined overall by less than six percent; (2) 62 percent of the divisions experienced a net loss in …

The purpose of this study was to investigate: (1) the relationship between the leadership style of an elementary school principal, as second-level manager, and the mathematics achievement of the students, and (2) the relationship between the degree of leadership style congruence of the elementary principal, as second-level manager, and the teacher, as first-level manager, and the mathematics achievement of students. The Problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of written job descriptions for the position of elementary assistant principal and to measure the observed role behavior, preferred role behavior, and effectiveness of assistant principals as perceived by principals, assistant principals, and teachers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between regional accreditation status and selected achievement test scores in public elementary schools in Virginia. In this study the author translated the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' (SACS) goal of school improvement into a measurable indicator of goal achievement, achievement test scores.;The process of SACS elementary accreditation involves a considerable investment of school resources. The purpose of this study was to investigate the development of legal authority of Virginia division superintendents based upon State Constitutions and statutes between the years of 1869 and 1970. Four specific areas chosen to be investigated because of their importance were, respectively, certified personnel, finance, buildings, and policy formulation and execution.;Because of recent increases in public school expectations and seemingly parallel increases in the importance and complexity of the office of division superintendent, it was speculated that there would be a corresponding increase in the superintendent's legal authority.
