A Comparative Study Of The Performance Of Students In Gregg Shorthand, Diamond Jubilee Series, And Forkner Shorthand In The Seattle Public Schools, Pearl M. Ribling

It was the purpose of this study (1) to compare end-of-the-year achievement of the students taking Gregg Shorthand with those taking Forkner Shorthand in the Seattle Public Schools, (2) to make an error analysis of student transcripts to determine the kinds of transcription errors that were made, and (3) to determine whether any particular errors were more prevalent in one shorthand system than in the other.

It is the purpose of this study to administer five commonly used tests and evaluate them according to ease of administration and the value of the information received. Because this study is to be essentially exploratory in nature, and not experimental, the evaluation of the tests will be largely subjective and will attempt to compare factors involving the administration of the tests to the child, the check sheets used to record information, and the adequacy of the information resulting from the administration of the various tests.

The purposes of the study were to determine the level of priority of importance of administrative problem areas and specific problem items preventing the implementation of special programs for the educable mentally retarded in Utah. The study was conducted using a survey of twenty-seven school districts in the state of Utah lacking a sequential program for the educable mentally retarded in grades one through six.
A questionnaire was sent to 184 selected respondents, including school board chairmen, superintendents, and elementary principals. Responses were received from 92 percent of the original selection. The respondent was asked to rank each of the …

The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes of the early admission practice of the Ellensburg Public Schools during the period 1956 through 1959 as it related to public school students whose birthdates occurred after September 10 and before February 1. These outcomes were studied in relation to a limited number of factors assumed to be significant in measuring the educational development and school progress of students. This study was undertaken specifically to aid the Arlington Elementary School in Tacoma, Washington. The expressed need of this school was to find a best predictor of the readiness of kindergarten age children to begin formal reading programs. If an aspect of the English teacher's job is to teach the non-standard speaker a different language (in part, at least), perhaps teachers should examine the process through which the child first learns his language.
