The purpose of this study is to determine if there was a relationship between the scores achieved on the Elementary School Fitness Test and the following factors: (1) the economic level of the neighborhood in which the schools were located; (2) family size; (3) achievement scores on the Iowa Basic Skills Test; (4) absenteeism of the students; and (5) health history of students.

School personnel administration.is concerned with two basic categories of employees: teaching and nonteaching or instructional and noninstructional. How they differ in definition and classification and which employees of a school division fall into the respective categories, especially the noninstructional classification, is the purpose for the survey to be reported in the succeeding chapters of this investigation. Little or no professional literature· exists to clarify this issue. Consequently, 'it is the desire of the writer to report and analyze what is presently being done in the administration of noninstructional employees.

The hypotheses tested in this study are concerned with the efficacy of different methods of trying to aid underachievers. Specifically they are: 1. There is no difference in academic achievement as reflected in grade-point-average between students who received group counseling, special study instruction and no special treatment. 2. There is no difference in study skills as reflected by the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Work Study Skills subtest) between students who received group counseling, special study instruction, and no special treatment. 3. It was the purpose of this study (1) to classify causes of reported teacher absences; (2) to compare frequency of absences in men and women teachers; (3) to determine months of the year and days of the week showing the greatest number of teacher absences; (4) to compare absence patterns in married and unmarried teachers; (5) to determine age groups of teachers having the greatest frequency of absences; and (6) to determine whether extended sick leave provisions and duty-free noon hours have had any substantial effect on teacher absence patterns.
