The Effects Of Real-Time Visual Performance Feedback On Teacher Feedback., Chris A. Sweigart
The Effects Of Real-Time Visual Performance Feedback On Teacher Feedback., Chris A. Sweigart
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Researchers have identified a number of instructional strategies as evidence-based for improving the academic and behavioral outcomes of students. However, teachers often do not employ these practices or rarely implement them at recommended rates, perpetuating a research-to-practice gap. Further, research has demonstrated that traditional professional development is often insufficient to change teacher practice; therefore, researchers have explored a number of interventions to supplement teacher training. Performance feedback is one such method that has a growing base of empirical evidence. This study explored the effects of visual performance feedback (VPF) delivered in real-time using screen sharing technology on a discrete teacher …

Culture At The Core : The Impact Of Culturally Relevant Professional Learning On Teacher Beliefs And Practice : A Collection Of Scholarly Papers., Mikkaka Hardaway Overstreet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As the United States invests billions of dollars into teacher professional development, the underlying assumption is that learning leads to change and improvement in classroom practice. In truth, however, the process is not so simple. In this collection I explore what happens between new learning and application of that learning. This dissertation is a collection of scholarly papers examining teacher lives, culture, and learning from professional learning through implementation of learning in instructional practice. It examines the tensions between teacher beliefs, teacher learning and teacher practice and makes suggestions for systemic change. Within it, I contend that a focus on …

Enhancing Teaching And Learning Through Ipad Integration In A Clinic-~Based Literacy Course, Kyle F. Kaalberg
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
A re-conceptualized clinic-based literacy methods course offered the opportunity to engage participants with digital media, i.e., iPads, as a part of reading and writing instruction. This multiple case study highlights the experiences of those involved with the course: two instructors, 18 teacher candidates, and the 18 elementary tutees who received literacy tutoring. Framed through a new literacies perspective and TPACK framework, the study focused on teacher candidates' use of iPads with their literacy instruction of elementary tutees, tutees' learning experiences, and the ways in which course instructors' TPACK was influenced.
Data collection involved multiple case study methodology (Merriam, 1998; Yin, …

Shaking It Up: Challenging Veteran Teachers To Change, Evelyn Baker Lang
Educational Studies Dissertations
My research, conducted at a 600 student middle school, explored the conditions and factors needed by veteran teachers to learn about and implement educational change, either mandated or teacher-initiated. Qualitative research methods used included in-depth interviews of veteran teachers and observations in classrooms, cluster meetings and professional development workshops. Five factors appeared to facilitate the change effort for this group of teachers. They are: An understanding that the change process is a challenge in itself. A school culture that is conducive to change. A school principal who supports, inspires and encourages teachers. Appropriate professional development is offered to teachers. Teachers …

This 2-year study describes the program's adoption and implementation stages. Institutionalization was not included as it takes 3-10 years to occur. Three research questions guided this study.
Research questions. (1) What did the teacher training in the uses of processes look like during the initial summer session of the Field-based Master's Program? (2) What did the transfer of training …

A Case Study Of Selected Preservice Teachers Regarding The Origins Of Their Perspectives On The Commonplaces Of Education And The Impact Of Foundations Studies On Those Perspectives, Charles D. Scarbrough
A Case Study Of Selected Preservice Teachers Regarding The Origins Of Their Perspectives On The Commonplaces Of Education And The Impact Of Foundations Studies On Those Perspectives, Charles D. Scarbrough
Dissertations
Problem. Many educational foundations scholars claim that teacher education programs focus on the how of instruction (student teaching and methods courses) instead of the why of education (foundations studies), and that preservice teachers’ pre-college perspectives about education are not questionned or challenged. Their programs’ foundations studies have made little or no impact on preservice teachers.
Method. An interview-based case study methodology was employed and Schwab’s (1978) concept of the four "commonplaces" of education (teacher, student, curriculum, and context) was used to categorize questions about the meaning and purpose of education. Nine interviewees were selected from among students in two teacher …

Dissertations
Purpose: A qualitative case study designed to look at two student teachers' practice teaching experiences using cooperative learning was undertaken during the 1990-1991 academic year. An Investigation Of Predictors Of Success In Elementary Student Teaching In Selected Seventh-Day Adventist Colleges, J. Roger Couty
Dissertations
Problem. Investigations of predictors of student teaching success have yielded contradictory results in general. Besides, reports of such investigations could not be located, as related to Seventh-day Adventist colleges. There seemed to be a need for a study of predictors of student teaching success in Seventh-day Adventist colleges.
Method. The purpose of the study was to look at selected factors and determine whether or not they are related to student teaching success. Four hundred and fifty students who had completed their student teaching experience between Fall quarter 1977 and Spring quarter 1983 were involved in the study. Data were collected …
Development Of The Teacher’S Self For Effective Teaching, June Bach Hill
Development Of The Teacher’S Self For Effective Teaching, June Bach Hill
All Master's Theses
The recognition of adequate development of the teacher's self is seen by the researcher and shown by literature as a major problem for teacher education in the near future. Teaching is a helping profession; the ultimate goal of teaching is to better hear and relate to the needs of human growth and development of children in the classroom. Since the way one views himself greatly affects how he sees others, the importance of a positive teacher self-concept can hardly be overemphasized.
