This study is based on leadership frame theory as developed by Drs. Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal who merged several different schools of theory into four different frames: structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. In July, 1998 the Leadership Orientation (Self) survey, developed by Bolman and Deal (1990a) was distributed to 343 campus safety directors at American public four-year postsecondary institutions. A return of 190 (55.4%) useable survey instruments was obtained in this study.

This study assessed discrepancies between residential employees' work values and program directors' perceptions of the residential employees' work values. Additionally, work values of residential employees were analyzed to identify variations when considering gender, age, educational level, length of service, job classification, and current position. The study was undertaken to assist in developing a clearer understanding of the work values of residential employees for the purpose of enhancing administrator-associate relationships and to determine factors in the work setting that might contribute to longevity and more productive, satisfied, motivated employees. The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to explore the impact of employee morale, as manifested in institutional climate data, upon institutional effectiveness; and (2) to determine the extent to which information generated by climate survey data was used in developing and implementing change initiatives at each of the institutions studied. Three institutions were selected for this multiple site case study. Four sources of data from each institution were used to provide a "picture" of institutional climate. The purpose of this study is to reveal what technological skills are inquired about by superintendents/directors of schools in the state of Tennessee when hiring high school principals. The study further reveals perceptions that superintendents/directors of schools have for the desirability of high school principals to possess technological skills and their perceptions of how capable current high school principals are for possessing those skills. The problem was that much effort was being put into an alliance for preparing school leaders with little evidence concerning how effective such groups were in promoting positive change. The problem of this study was to identify the professional development needs of the school leader to facilitate the inclusion of students with handicaps into the regular education program. This was a descriptive study which utilized questionnaire methodology. The Change Facilitators Stages of Concern Questionnaire (CFSoCQ) was the instrument selected as appropriate for the study. The research question for this study asked if CEO's (Chief Executive Officers) of urban higher education institutions hold the same values and beliefs as those attributed to business and industry CEO's through the business literature. Through survey methodology, the analysis of urban higher education CEO's perceptions of critical leadership behaviors revealed very similar belief patterns. The primary discrepancies between the research group and their industry counterparts lie in the degree to which critical behaviors are espoused and in the acceptance of transformational leadership as a proactive model for effective organizational change. The author developed and implemented a program to facilitate communication and improve working relationships among members of an elementary school staff. The purpose of the project was to improve communication and collegial relationships within an elementary school. The program consisted of three components: (1) a series of inservice workshops for faculty to strengthen self-knowledge and understanding of others and to introduce effective communication skills; (2) additional training in team building for team leaders and (3) concrete adjustments in communication mechanisms. Research questions asked were: (1) Are there significant differences between the perceptions of principals and teachers concerning principals' leadership behavior on the twelve subscales of the LBDQ-XII? The purpose of this study was to compare the leadership potential of students from upper level division students majoring in Physical Education as compared to students majoring in Recreation. Two psychological tests were utilized to measure leadership potential between these groups. They were the Leadership Ability Evaluation and the Leadership Q-Sort Test, which yielded data in 12 variables.

Analysis of this data revealed that there was significant difference at the .05 level in three of the twelve variables. A comparison of all means for the two tests favored the Recreation majors over the Physical Education majors in leadership potential.

Frequently, someone has remarked of another, "He is a born leader." Such a statement has been a prevailing sentiment or many past generations rather than a fact supported by established proof. Scientists have long recognized the importance of environment as well as heredity in shaping the individual personality.
