The problem of this study was to compare perceived training needs of public school administrators at two points in time and to analyze those needs as to age, sex, educational degree, and experience of respondents. The survey population consisted of public school principals in the 14 systems of the First Educational District in Northeast Tennessee. A descriptive research design was chosen for the study. A follow-up questionnaire was developed based on the 1986 Brown Survey which surveyed the same population for demographic and professional characteristics in addition to the perceived training needs of principals, superintendents, and school board members. This population study of the certification qualifications of the secondary science teachers of the Upper East Tennessee region in 1984-85 was conducted to determine if there was a qualification shortage in any science-teaching area at the beginning of the Comprehensive Education Reform Act (CERA). Data were obtained from the Tennessee State Department of Education Preliminary Report Forms for Staff. Subject certification data and 1984-85 teaching assignment were analyzed to find percentages of infield, out-of-field teaching and the size of the internal pool of active certificated science teachers who were not teaching. The problem of this study was to determine the level of concern of supervisors and administrators in the state of Tennessee toward mainstreaming classes for the severely mentally retarded and the classes for the multi-handicapped into the regular schools. The Change Facilitators Stages of Concern Questionnaire (CFSoCQ) was the instrument selected as appropriate for the study. The problem of this study was to determine the current methodologies used by selected secondary school personnel in early problem detection as the basis for development of generic detection paradigms. The sample size of this study consisted of 48 principals, 46 guidance counselors, and 347 classroom teachers. The principal of each secondary school in the study area was selected for inclusion in the study, and the guidance department chairman of each secondary school was selected for inclusion in the study, while the teachers were randomly selected for inclusion in the study. The problem of this study was to identify teacher training principles which would aid day care teachers in integrating handicapped children into their classrooms. This was a descriptive study which utilized a questionnaire methodology. The questionnaire was administered to teachers of randomly selected day care centers in Tennessee. The sample size was 347. The primary objective of this study was to identify determinants of upward mobility for individuals who subsequently achieve elementary principalships. Since many educators aspire to elementary principalships, awareness of tangible and intangible determinants is important to principalship candidates in their upward movement to the elementary principalship. The basic research tool was a qualitative research interview. A purposive sample was used involving individuals with identified expertise and with access to certain desired information. Therefore, the study involved two levels of administrative personnel--superintendents who recommend and elementary principals who have been appointed to positions within school systems.
