Master's Theses

For many years the planes of projection have been for gotten or ignored by many teachers in the teaching of mechan ical drawing in the high schools. The reasons suggested by those teachers who do not use the planes of projection in their teaching have been based upon their observations and conclusions, and in no instance which the writer has discover ed has experimental evidence been presented to support these contentions.

It is the purpose of this study to determine the value of the use of the projection planes in the teaching of high school mechanical drawing. A relative comparison …

A Survey Of Guidance Activities In Group Iii High Schools In Virginia, Edward Michael Branich

Master's Theses

Recognition or a definite need for organized guidance services is so general that planned guidance programs need no defense. In the editor's introduction to a recent book on guidance practices, Franklin P. Zeran has this to say, "school administrators are becoming more and more interested in initiating and developing functional guidance programs within their schools." Numerous articles discussing guidance -- its principles, functions, techniques, and methods of evaluation -- have appeared in periodicals devoted to education. The State Board of Education of Virginia, in its newly adopted standards for the accrediting or Secondary Schools, states: "Guidance services shall be provided …

The Organization Of A Functional Library For The Mound City, Kansas, High School, John L. Carmichael

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The nature of the educative process widespread throughout the United States, with its emphasis upon textbooks and uniform learning, has tended to make the school library appear as an extra rather than an essential. Consequently, money has been spent on the library only with left over from other departments. Many teachers encouraged the pupil to use the library solely for leisure reading or for some other information if, or sometimes after, lessons were done. Administration in many schools have not been educational leaders. They have stood by and have been unaffected by controversies over teaching methods and materials to be …

The Role Of Art In The Complete Development Of A Christian Personality, Sister Loretta Ann Mccarthy

A survey of ancient literature reveals that art as an area in school life is becoming increasingly recognized as tremendously significant to a complete participation in the creative activities of life. Graduate Thesis Collection

The Leadership Education Audio-visual Kit was completed by the Division of Christian Education of the National Churches of Christ in the United states of America in the Fall of 1950. The problem: How may the Kit be used to challenge each person to teach wherever he has opportunity? To teach is easy but to teach in a manner that the person will grow toward Christ is difficult.

A Study Of A High School Marriage And Family Course, Wendell P. Hill

Masters Theses

Chapter I

The Problem and Its Background

The Objectives of Education

It is recognized that the public school is designed to do more than develop academic competence.1 The school must also develop emotional and social maturity in its charges. If the public school fails to take cognizance of the importance of these latter two objectives, it will fail also in meeting some of the more important objectives of education. A recent report of the Educational Policies Commission of the National Education Association supports this viewpoint clearly.

"As differentiated from instruction and the business affairs... student personnel work refers to all activities undertaken or sponsored by an educational institution, aside from curricular instruction, in which the student's personal development is the primary consideration. Student …

During the past few years revenue for the support and maintenance of public schools in Utah has become a subject of increasing concern and discussion. Considerable effort has been made on the state level in an attempt to equalize the financial programs among the school districts in the state. Much of this effort has placed its emphasis upon property tax as the major source of school revenue, both on the local level and the state level. Inflationary trends in the national economy have added to the aggravation of this problem. It has become increasingly necessary to seek additional revenue in …

A Comparison Of The Band And Orchestral Programs In The High Schools Of Utah, George D. Harris May 1952

A Comparison Of The Band And Orchestral Programs In The High Schools Of Utah, George D. Harris

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In the schools of Utah, as elsewhere in the nation, a situation has arisen which is of vital importance to the continuance of orchestral music. We find, on the basis of casual observation, that the string instruments are not being taught on an equal basis with the band instruments. It is generally assumed that band and orchestra instruction are equally desirable in an instrumental program. Unfortunately, many school authorities are not aware of the necessity of such equal opportunities for school children and as a result we may find string music relegated to an insecure position in our educational system.

The evaluation of the effectiveness of the various aspects of our educational activity has long been practiced. Such evaluations have resulted in greater efficiency and widespread improvements in the educational fields. Continued appraisal of those aspects of our extracurricular programs that will result in greater efficiency is an ever present need; and the need for continual improvements in the field of extracurriculum finances assumes greater importance now, since in the addition to a greater tax burden for education, parents must contribute to the bulk of the funds for the extracurriculum program, in one way or another, through meeting the needs …

The History Of The New Jersey-Logan Academy, 1878-1934, Harold Y. S. Loo

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The story of Presbyterianism begins, in general, with the story of Protestantism. Not many years after Luther's action in Wittenburg began a spiritual reformation, two men--Calvin and Knox--shared in the new form of Protestantism which was to come under the name of Presbyterianism. Largely by way of Scotland and England this denomination of Christianity moved into America early in the 17th century. When the United States government was formed officially in 1789, one man--John Witherspoon--was highly instrumental in the form adopted. Witherspoon was also a leader of the Presbyterian Church, and in that one year of 1789 he helped to …
