The improvement of school environment presents a different problem in each school. The problem facing the Ellensburg School District is one of providing more and better school housing. The purpose of this survey is to find out the condition of the present buildings, to make recommendations for improvements and alterations to the existing structures, to point out the needs for future building expansion. This survey is based on the results of an actual school census undertaken during November of this year.

The problem of this study is to trace the changes in theory, content, and methods in the teaching of arithmetic in the public elementary schools of New Mexico from their beginning in 1891 to the present time, 1949.

Although there were some public schools prior to 1891, the passage of the Education Bill in that year provided for the establishment of the public school system in New Mexico. Individualization in education depends upon accurate appraisal of fundamental characteristics. A better understanding of physical abilities and potentials is essential to improvement of the physical education program. This means that the methods of science involving analysis and modification should be applied to the physical factors as well as to any other aspects of human behavior. A man is the sum total of his abilities. Abilities vary, both the inherent and the acquired. If it is important for a teacher or coach to judge ability and performance, then it is important to have adequate objective measurements pertaining to these factors.

The Malaga community is the southernmost settlement in Eddy County, New Mexico. The village is seventeen miles southeast of Carlsbad, New Mexico, on U.S. Highway 85, and eighteen miles north of the southern boundary of the state. Early settlement and development of the community is traced in a survey made in 1941 by Johansen and Rossoff.

One hundred forty-three pupils were enrolled in the school in May, 1948. The school census as of April, 1948, listed 191 school-age persons in the community. Eight of the latter were attending the high school at Carlsbad. The remainder of those on the school …

The purpose of this study was to determine the qualifications required for successful saleswork as interpreted by employers who hire salespeople, the salespeople themselves, the consumers who buy from salespeople, and the instructors who teach salesmanship in the two-year colleges of Kansas. Data was collected by means of a check list filled out by sixteen retail employers, fourteen retail salespeople, ten traveling salespeople, eight door-to-door salespeople, thirteen salespeople who sell a service, twelve consumers, and thirteen salesmanship instructors. This study was made to determine the present status of the dictation and transcription phases of shorthand in the public supported high schools in Kansas. In collecting the data necessary for the study, check lists were mailed to 69 public supported high schools; these were the Class A high schools in Kansas having an enrollment of 250 or more. The findings from the study show that approximately one-half of the schools approve of dictation and transcription as a separate course; however, only one school stated that dictation and transcription are offered as a separate course.
