Tenure And Turnover Of Public School Teachers In New Mexico, Burton T. Williams
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
It is generally recognized that, other things being equal, teachers who have been in a system long enough to become acquainted with local conditions are able to give more efficient service to the schools than new teachers. The question of turnover of teachers in service has come up within recent years as one of the outstanding and pressing problems concerning the administration of our school systems. It is generally understood that the mobility of our teachers is far in excess of what it should be for the attainment of the best results in our schools. Teachers that are on the …

Insurance Practices Of School Boards In Municipal And County Schools Of New Mexico With Evaluation And Standards, Owen O. Sabin
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Since New Mexico schools, exclusive of private schools and higher institutions, spend $135,000 each year for insurance premiums, considerable thought might well be given to the question whether or not this money is wisely spent. The value of insurance is no longer seriously questioned, but as yet few public officials or school administrators seem to recognize that it should be purchased as economically as possible, consistent with good business practices and safety.
The problem undertaken in this study is to discover the practices of New Mexico school boards in the handling of insurance in public school property.

The measure of effectiveness was that as indicated by scores on standardized tests interpreted as reading ages, and other evidence that this will be …

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Are teachers justified in the belief that the student who is frequently absent from school cannot acquire the fundamental education gained by the child who attends regularly? Does the child with greater intelligence attend school more regularly than the child of lesser intelligence? If not , does his greater intelligence make it possible for him to acquire the knowledge whether or not he attends school regularly? This study seeks to throw light on these questions by determining what relation exists between school attendance and achievement when intelligence is held constant.

The Place Of Private And Church Schools In The Education Of The State, Anna Elizabeth Falls
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
In considering the relation of the private, parochial and denominational schools to the education of the State, it is well to bear in mind Sargent's statement that in that last analysis there is no such thing as a private school; that all schools are doing a public work, the work of the community in educating prospective citizens. It is this fact, that education in our American democracy has for its aim the making of a progressive and stable nation through efficiently trained citizens, each in his individual capacity and through his individual interests, that makes the problem of education difficult …

Analysis Of New Mexico State School Laws, John Seyfried

The real intent is to occasion serious thought on the larger problems of the way for an expert state survey, preliminary to more constructive action. The extent that school problems may be treated herein is limited by the fact that only such time, effort, and other resources were at the writer’s disposal as are commonly available in the preparation of a thesis to be submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements …
