This study examined the job competencies, career paths, and educational backgrounds of training directors and also compared the responses of male and female training directors in an attempt to identify possible sources of justification for reported male/female salary differences. Data for the study were gathered through the use of two questionnaires. The first was based on a part of the American Society for Training and Development's (ASTD) 1987-1989 Competency and Standards Study. Additionally, a demographic questionnaire dealing with biographical, educational, and professional characteristics was self-developed. The purpose of this study was to investigate, through in-depth interviews, those factors which served to motivate early marriage women in the attainment of associate degrees and to identify characteristics of early marriage women who were successful in completing associate degrees. The details obtained from these interviews were interpreted and their meanings used to generate propositions and implications about the completion of associate degrees by this group of students. In-depth interviews were conducted with 28 early marriage women (informants) who either completed associate degrees or were within 12 semester hours of completing an associate degree. This study investigated a range of motivational variables which might lead individuals to become educational administrators. Identified and reported are those variables which are viewed by teachers who comprised the pool from which most future administrators are drawn. Twenty-seven items were identified and used on an instrument, designed by the writer. The null hypothesis for statistical differences between male and female educators was tested on each of the 27 items at the .05 level of significance, using multivariate analysis of variance and the test of simple main effects.
