The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether institutional control as defined by private and public colleges and universities, institutional setting, as defined by two-year and four-year colleges and universities, and institutional geographical location, as defined by the states of California, Pennsylvania, and Texas, had any measurably significant difference on academic program planning emphasis and value in the area of labor market demand. The document presents a review of relevant literature providing research findings relevant to problems concerning dropouts. Data for the document was obtained by sending a questionnaire to selected drop out students at Odessa High School. The results of the survey were organized into statistical data and reported in the document in tables and diagrams. The results of the survey imply a significant number of dropouts have a negative attitude about the treatment they received from school personnel, but school is generally regarded as a needed and good experience. Differences in opinion [arise] regarding the comparative quality of academic performance of students enrolled in residence and those in extension. However, no objective study has yet been made at the University of New Mexico comparing the academic performances of students in extension with that made by resident students, hence those differences of opinion have not been reconciled.
