The Story Of Periodicity: An Exploration Of Sam Kean’S The Disappearing Spoon For Chemistry And English, Elizabeth Muire, Kay Newsome Jan 2019

The Story Of Periodicity: An Exploration Of Sam Kean’S The Disappearing Spoon For Chemistry And English, Elizabeth Muire, Kay Newsome

Understanding by Design: Complete Collection

This unit incorporates knowledge of chemistry and English. Students will read and analyze, write persuasively, and explore the possibilities of storytelling to convey scientific ideas. They explore how the form and function of the periodic table is organized by the form and function of the elements on it, and extrapolate how the table could be continued. Students will design the potential next row of the table, once they have a clear understanding of how the current rows were discovered.

The Chemistry Of Making Soap: Chemical And Physical Changes In 6th Grade Science, Samantha Bos Jun 2017

The Chemistry Of Making Soap: Chemical And Physical Changes In 6th Grade Science, Samantha Bos

Understanding by Design: Complete Collection

This unit is designed primarily for 6th grade students, but it can be paired to work with 10th grade curriculum as well. In the unit, students will be introduced to elements and compounds before moving into identifying chemical changes. As part of the final lab, students will create soap.

Please note that this unit has multiple hands-on activities that require many household products or items to be brought and used in classroom experiments. This unit also uses Stemscopes, a purchased curriculum. When possible free alternative assignments are provided to the Stemscopes activities.

Atoms And Elements [6th Grade], Jennifer J. Wray Jun 2015

Atoms And Elements [6th Grade], Jennifer J. Wray

Understanding by Design: Complete Collection

This is a 6th grade unit written to help students understand the abstract concept of atoms. Students will learn about the history of atomic theory and examine contemporary theories of atomic structure. The next piece is to explore the Periodic Table of Elements and gain an understanding for how it is organized. The culminating performance task invites students to adopt an element and create a 3 dimensional model of their specific element in addition to a written component.

Herrington, Oliver and Reeves (2003) assert that many researchers and teachers now accept that well designed multimedia environments provide an alternative to real-life settings without sacrificing the authentic context. Further, researchers report that recent educational software advances have demonstrated that it is feasible to create a motivational simulation that supports pre-service teachers by providing them with tools that allow them to view the effects of their decisions within a virtual classroom context (Aldrich, 2004) However, limited research has been reported on the use of authentic simulations in pre-service teacher education.

This paper describes the on-line simulation that we developed to …

G96-1280 Drinking Water: Iron And Manganese, David L. Varner, Sharon Skipton, Delynn Hay, Paul J. Jasa Jan 1996

G96-1280 Drinking Water: Iron And Manganese, David L. Varner, Sharon Skipton, Delynn Hay, Paul J. Jasa

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide discusses recommended practices to manage iron and manganese in a domestic water supply. Iron and manganese are non-hazardous elements that can be a nuisance in a water supply. Iron and manganese are chemically similar and cause similar problems. Iron is the most frequent of the two contaminants in water supplies; manganese is typically found in iron-bearing water.

G91-1057 Elements Of Technical Analysis, Robin R. Riley, Lynn H. Lutgen

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This seventh in a series of nine NebGuides on technical analysis in marketing centers on daily volume and open interest.

Volume and open interest are used to substantiate primary signals developed by technical analysis. They help investors find clues to market movement and bolster the chances of enhancing their financial position.

In the futures market, a new contract becomes a reality only when a new buyer and a new seller complete a transaction.

G82-596 Use And Management Of Micronutrient Fertilizers In Nebraska, George W. Rehm, E.J. Penas Jan 1982

G82-596 Use And Management Of Micronutrient Fertilizers In Nebraska, George W. Rehm, E.J. Penas

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide focuses on the use of the micronutrients zinc and iron.

Of the 16 elements known to be essential for plant growth, 7 are used in very small amounts and are classified as micronutrients. These are zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), boron (B), molybdenum (Mo) and chlorine (Cl).

Micronutrients are supplied to plants from two sources: 1) soil minerals and 2) organic matter. They are released as the soil minerals break down over a period of time by weathering. The major portion of the micronutrients made available to plants, however, probably comes from the breakdown (mineralization) …

Ec31-133 The Management Of Nebraska Soils (Revised March 1936), P.H. Stewart, D.L. Gross

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The agricultural lands of this country are its greatest natural resource. History points out that nations with vast areas of good farm land are most likely to prosper and survive over long periods of time. Local communities, too, prosper and flourish in proportion to the productiveness of the surrounding land. Schools, social life, and business develop best in areas where the land is productive and properly managed and conserved.

Nebraska, in common with other states, has suffered by the depletion of soil fertility. The reduction in acres in legumes and grasses, and the deplation of the organic matter in the …
