Religious Participation And Children's Education : A Social Capital Approach, Chengze, Simon Fan

Centre for Public Policy Studies : CPPS Working Paper Series

Based on the argument in both economic and sociological literature that religion is conducive to their children's human capital formation, this paper provides a model of religious participation and explores a mechanism that “social capital" affects children's education, a la Coleman (1988). The model generates several interesting implications, which help explain some important stylized facts about education and religion. Further, in a dynamic setting, the model shows that there exists a steady state, in which individuals allocate a positive amount of time and resources to religious activities. Steering By Engagement:Towards An Integrated Planning And Evaluation Framework In Higher Education Institutes, Deirdre Lillis

Conference papers

Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) worldwide are investing significant resources in strategic planning and self study programs to improve institutional performance. Free To Be: Supporting Lesbian, Gay, And Bisexual Students On Catholic Campuses, Jessica B. Buckley

Faculty Scholarship

There is a long history of tension between the authority of the Vatican and the relative autonomy of Roman Catholic institutions of higher education, particularly in the United States of America. These tensions currently arise on Catholic campuses where student affairs practitioners seek to support lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) students while at the same time operating within Vatican teaching that homosexuality is objectively disordered (Ratzinger, 1986). This paper will review those Catholic teachings on homosexuality and explore policies and practices of student affairs practitioners seeking to serve LGB students at Catholic higher education institutions.
