In recent years several articles have been written concerning education in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but the writer has been unable to discover an article that has treated the development of education from the time Bowling Green was established until now. It is the motive of this study to trace the development of education from the time Bowling Green was established until the present time.

Information for this thesis has been obtained from various sources, but the greater part of it has been secured through personal interviews, unpublished manuscripts, scrapbooks and histories.

In order that the objectives of this study - the ability to give more intelligent guidance, from the standpoint of the teacher-training institution, in the proper minor for an English major - the problem becomes one of determining:

  1. What minor English majors used in their college education.
  2. What number are teaching their minor subject.
  3. What subject those with teaching experience suggest that future English majors use as a minor.

In February 1935 the Washington Education Joumal carried a brief article under the title of "World History, 'What's It All About?'" Since then several letters have come from world history teachers from within the state. Frankly, they have caused some embarrassment. In almost one accord they have chided the writer with pointing out some of the problems relative to presenting world history without giving a hint as to possible remedial measures. The following suggestions no doubt represent methods which are being employed by all history teachers either directly or indirectly. They are neither new nor unique. However, they may help …
