Peer Tutoring Of Junior Nursing Students: Student Experiences And Perceptions Of Self-Efficacy And Benefit, Mary Clarke
Peer Tutoring Of Junior Nursing Students: Student Experiences And Perceptions Of Self-Efficacy And Benefit, Mary Clarke
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study is to understand the experiences of peer tutoring in junior-level nursing students, as well as the perceptions of increased self-efficacy and overall benefit to student learning. The proposed study included 10 nursing students enrolled in the residential Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at a large private university in the Southeast United States. The theoretical framework guiding this study included both developmental constructivism (Piaget, 1953) and social cognitive theory (Bandura, 1994), as they work in a reciprocal relationship within a conceptual framework. Knowledge is constructed, and as students learn concepts from experiences, they …
Exploring Attitude Transformation: A Grounded Theory Study Of Romanian Teachers Of Roma Students, Laura Jones
Exploring Attitude Transformation: A Grounded Theory Study Of Romanian Teachers Of Roma Students, Laura Jones
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this systematic grounded theory study was to explore the process of change in teacher attitudes toward including Roma (“Gypsy”) students in non-segregated schools in Romania. The theories guiding this study included Mezirow’s (1991, 2000) theory of transformation, Gay’s (2002, 2013) theory of culturally responsive teaching, and Bandura’s (1977, 1997) theory of self-efficacy. These three theories guided this research inquiry into how attitudes change, how teacher attitudes affect beliefs and actions, and how self-efficacy affects teacher attitudes. This study sought to answer the following questions: What is the process of transforming Romanian teacher attitudes toward including Roma students? …
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Developmental Math Students' Experiences And Perceptions, Megan Cordes
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Developmental Math Students' Experiences And Perceptions, Megan Cordes
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Current literature suggests the rise of enrollment among United States (U.S.) postsecondary institutions but the decline in graduation rates. While there is extensive quantitative data examining course redesigns and increasing student achievement in developmental math courses, there is limited research examining students' experiences and perceptions within these courses. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to examine the experiences and perceptions of developmental math students. This study utilized the theoretical framework of Bandura's (1997) social cognitive theory and Tinto's (2012a) retention theory. Research questions focused on the lived experience of struggling within a developmental math course, past math experiences …
The Relationship Between Body Mass Index, Fitness, Self-Efficacy And Their Prediction On Criterion Referenced Competency Test Scores For Eighth Grade Students, Julie Hale
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study sought to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), physical fitness, self-efficacy, and their possible prediction on scores from the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) for eighth grade students in north Georgia. The participants were 183 eighth grade students in three north Georgia middle schools enrolled in physical education during the fall of 2013. Scores from the students' BMI, FitnessGram®, General Self-Efficacy Test (GSES), and results from the Georgia CRCT were compiled and analyzed to give a better understanding of their predictive relationship. Students complete CRCT tests every school year between third and eighth grade, and …
The Effect Of Georgia Ninth Grade Academies On End Of Course Test Scores, Graduation Rate, And Attendance, Andrea Irvin
The Effect Of Georgia Ninth Grade Academies On End Of Course Test Scores, Graduation Rate, And Attendance, Andrea Irvin
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative causal-comparative study was to explore the effect of Ninth Grade Academies as Small Learning Communities as an approach to further student success in comparison to Traditional Comprehensive High School structures in the state of Georgia. This study sought to determine if students who attended a Ninth Grade Academy as a Small Learning Community during their freshman year had a higher rate of attendance, increased student achievement as measured by the Georgia End of Course Test scores in Ninth Grade Literature and Ninth Grade Algebra I, and a higher Graduation Rate in comparison to students who …
Exploring Relationships Among Teaching Styles, Teachers' Perceptions Of Their Self-Efficacy And Students' Mathematics Achievement, Christi Davis-Langston
Exploring Relationships Among Teaching Styles, Teachers' Perceptions Of Their Self-Efficacy And Students' Mathematics Achievement, Christi Davis-Langston
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among elementary school teachers' teaching styles, their perceptions of self-efficacy in teaching mathematics, and student mathematics achievement. Analysis of data collected from 95 teachers found small to moderate correlations between teaching style and measures of mathematics achievement. No statistically significant relationships were found between elementary school teachers' self-efficacy and students' mathematics achievement levels. Mathematics achievement (numbers and operations, geometry, and percentage of students who exceeded standards on the CRCT) was predicted by teaching styles (delegator, facilitator, and expert). Although the relationships were statistically significant, little variance in achievement was explained …
