Studies Of Handicapped Students: Volume 1: Whom Do Teachers Identify As Handicapped, Patricia Craig, Norman Mceachron
Studies Of Handicapped Students: Volume 1: Whom Do Teachers Identify As Handicapped, Patricia Craig, Norman Mceachron
Faculty Publications
This volume reports the first of two studies conducted by the Educational Policy Research Center (EPRC) of SRI for the Assistant Secretary for Education (ASE) on the handicapped school population. The volume presents data on patterns of socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of teacher-identified handicapped students. The purpose of the analysis was to determine whether significant differences in rates of identification of handicapping conditions are associated with family income, race, population size of place of residence, or geographic location. This study briefly reviews past studies; explores a new set of data to determine its usefulness in determining characteristics of the teacher-identified …
A Descriptive Study Of Ninth Grade Reading Programs In Schools Of The Second Education District Of Kentucky, Eloyse Jean Groves
A Descriptive Study Of Ninth Grade Reading Programs In Schools Of The Second Education District Of Kentucky, Eloyse Jean Groves
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Questionnaries concerning the nature of the state-required Ninth Grade Reading Programs were sent to principals of secondary schools in the Second Education District of Kentucky. The program, which had been in effect for two years, was studied as to the different organization, curriculum, students, faculty, resources, conclusions, and projections of each school involved an then compared to a standard reading program. It was found that Kentucky is a forerunner in the area of state requirements as to provision for help in reading for ninth grade students. The type of referral and physical setting of the program were both found to …
The Development And Analysis Of Base Line Data For The Estimation Of Incidence In The Handicapped School Age Population, Patricia Craig, Norman Mceachron
The Development And Analysis Of Base Line Data For The Estimation Of Incidence In The Handicapped School Age Population, Patricia Craig, Norman Mceachron
Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was, first, to examine and critique the more popular incidence sources for handicapping conditions in the school age population, and second, to establish reasonably reliable base line data on which the future analysis of special population groups can be grounded. On the basis of this study, we suggest that the National Center of Health Statistics estimates become the primary source for further analysis due to both their reliability and comparability. It is questionable whether these figures could be refined further by conducting an independent national survey of school children. Data reliability is important, since even …
Contemporary Historical Research Conference, John A. Henschke Edd
Contemporary Historical Research Conference, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
The problems and rewards of conducting contemporary historical research are related in the light of the author's experiences in preparing an Ed.D. dissertation analyzing Malcolm, S. Knowles' contributions to and influence on the field of adult study accurate but inconclusive. The major portion of the dissertation was based on data available in documents by or about Knowles, but an "opinionnaire" schedule (an adaptation of the Applied Behavioral Science Interview schedule), loosely constructed and open-ended, was sent to 150 former colleagues and students of Knowles. The problems raised by this form of research are discussed by the author. Three areas of …

Malcolm S. Knowles: His Contributions To The Theory And Practice Of Adult Education, John A. Henschke Edd
Malcolm S. Knowles: His Contributions To The Theory And Practice Of Adult Education, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
The central question of this study was: What are the contributions in theory and practice Malcolm S. Knowles has made to the emerging field of adult education? The nature of the study as contemporary history of a living person's educational work, required the findings to be preliminary. The source of information used to answer the central question were: interviews with and questionnaire responses of contemporaries of Knowles and Malcolm S. Knowles who served as "prime information resource;" writing so Knowles and others; and documents and proceedings of a variety of organizations influenced by Knowles. Sections were included on the influence …
Helping The Exceptional Child In The Classroom, Loretta Marie Miller
Helping The Exceptional Child In The Classroom, Loretta Marie Miller
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
Parents are acutely aware of the school problems which arise from variations among children. Some children do not progress at the average rate in the classroom. Even the gifted child may be a problem because his mental development is beyond his age in years.
Intelligence And Achievement Testing Of Convalescent Crippled Children, Loretta M. Miller
Intelligence And Achievement Testing Of Convalescent Crippled Children, Loretta M. Miller
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
Psychological studies of crippled children have been few, but among published studies opinion is unanimous that crippled children test lower in intelligence than normal children. The study reported here arrives at the same conclusion. In that respect, it adds nothing new to the picture, but in an area in which findings are not entirely definitive, a study of convalescent crippled children may add confirmation to the general body of knowledge.
