Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host Melanie Herring and Devin Jones’ senior art exhibits April 4-15 in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery. Jones’ exhibit will be held on the first floor, and Herring’s exhibit will be on the second floor. Both exhibits are free and open to the public. A reception for both seniors also will be held in the gallery on April 4 at 7 p.m.

Ouachita To Host Poet George Drew For Reading April 4, Rachel Gaddis, Ouachita News Bureau

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Language and Literature will host poet George Drew on Monday, April 4, for a reading beginning at 6 p.m. in Hickingbotham Hall’s Young Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Drew is an author and poet originally from Mississippi whose work has been published in journals across the country. His poetry has recently been anthologized in “The Southern Poetry Anthology, II: Mississippi,” and his collection “American Cool” won the Adirondack Literary Award for the best poetry book of 2009.

Sharing an update on Ouachita Baptist University’s presidential search process, search committee chairman Gene Whisenhunt told members of Ouachita’s Board of Trustees that the committee “is diligently seeking the right leader for this university at this time.”

In other board business, trustees heard a report about four new degree programs being introduced this fall and approved several personnel-related actions, including naming two emeriti faculty.

A total of 394 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2015 semester. The students will receive a certificate of recognition from Ouachita and will be included in the “National Dean’s List” for 2015-16.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must compile at least a 3.5 grade point average and be classified as a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Dr. Lei Cai and Dr. Hee-Kyung Juhn in a faculty piano recital Monday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. The recital will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus and is free and open to the public.

Cai, associate professor of music at Ouachita, and his wife, Juhn, director of keyboard studies at Henderson State University, will showcase works for four hands on one piano, works for two pianos and solo pieces.

Ouachita Baptist University will host guest musician Dr. Andrew Cooperstock for a piano recital Monday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. Cooperstock will also offer a master class prior to the recital at 3 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

A solo pianist and chamber musician, Cooperstock has appeared on six continents and in most of the 50 states. He has performed at the United Nations, New York’s Alice Tully, Merkin and Carnegie halls, Broadway’s 54 Below, Greenwich Village’s Le Poisson Rouge and Brooklyn’s BargeMusic.
