This article presents the findings of a literature review conducted from 2005 to 2013 on the elements involved when a school internationalises. In the past there has been predominant focus on the teachers or the international students at schools with little emphasis on a whole school approach to internationalisation. This review considers the body of literature on internationalisation and synthesises the findings using a stage play metaphor to construct the ideal performance of a school-wide approach to internationalising. International student advisors are responsible for a myriad of functions ranging from student arrival services, orientation to the academic norms, communicating cultural information and academic expectations, to ensuring that international students are familiar with the pertinent institutional and governmental policies. This paper provides a systematically conducted literature review in the field of international student advising regarding shifting roles of advisors, issues and challenges in the profession, needs of international students, and recommendations for those in the profession.

Academic Dishonesty Among International Students In Higher Education, Krishna Bista

University instructors address and want to eschew student academic misconduct. These educators presume that students understand fully what cheating and plagiarism are. However, analyzing this complex and dynamic issue is difficult. This study investigated the perceptions of international undergraduate and graduate students in a Southern U.S. university about the possible causes for academic misbehavior. Results reveal several causal variables: previous learning style, English language proficiency, unfamiliarity with American academic cultures, relationship between student and teacher, and availability of technical and educational resources associated with academic dishonesty.

Canada: Managing Diversity And Social Cohesion Under Bill C-50 And Beyond, Hristina Petrova

The recent changes in the Canadian immigration system have led to the development of other programs designed to attract highly skilled immigrants. Bill C-50 was implemented in order to reduce the immigration backlog and match supply with demand on the labour market. Whatever the scheme, there’s one particular group of immigrants whose entry into the country has been encouraged via numerous parallel initiatives – the one of international students. Their retention is strategic because they could be just what Canada needs – young people proficient in the official languages, with Canadian credentials and work experience.
