An Educator’S Reflection On The Importance Of Embodiment, Imagination, And Liberation, Ashley N. Gibson
An Educator’S Reflection On The Importance Of Embodiment, Imagination, And Liberation, Ashley N. Gibson
Journal of Multicultural Affairs
This reflection piece offers an interpretation of the years 2020-2021, through the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial awakenings in the US. Writing at the intersections of race, gender, and religion, this piece is part essay, part spoken word, and part treatise. The ultimate call to action is threefold; we must lean into embodiment as a habit for living, use our imaginations, and seek liberation for ourselves and one another if we are to hope for a better future. While many aspects of life now seem bleak, there is hope if we consider these three principles for …

The aim of this study was to investigate the implications of Imaginative Education in language learning. Five types of understanding were explained: Somatic, Mythic, Romantic, Philosophical, and Ironic. Considering these types means moving from conceptual understanding to aesthetical one in teaching Arabic for non-native. Mainly, the study answered the following questions: 1- What are the shortcomings of language conceptual understanding? 2- How to establish imagination-based aesthetical understanding of Arabic for non-native? A critical descriptive method was used.

L’Imagination Comme Forme De Creation Et De Demarcation En Publicite (Cas Des Visuels Publicitaires Sur Le Developpement Durable), Amina Saoussany
BAU Journal - Society, Culture and Human Behavior
The theme of sustainable development today is a growing concern of society. It aims to reconcile objectives of respect for the environment, economic efficiency and social equity. Transposing and applying this new approach to economic development, which is more systemic and more transparent, requires innovation and creation. These two requirements will bring about new ideas being capable of arousing the interest of the inhabitants of the planet, involving them and pushing them to adopt new ideas, to demonstrate eco-responsible behavior, and be to be more ethical in this regard. Humor in advertising for sustainable development is increasingly seen as a …
Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher
Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
Jesuit colleges and universities highlight terms like magis to accentuate the specific charism of Jesuit education. But when these words and phrases are separated from their context in Ignatian spirituality and the mission of the Society of Jesus, they risk becoming banal jargon. When magis is properly understood and effectively taught, it provides a fundamental horizon of meaning, calls everyone to partner in the mission of Jesuit education, and empowers faculty, staff, and students to embrace moral responsibility in a world marked by sin and suffering. In the praxis of teaching magis, contemplation, imagination, and vocation discernment are three …
Disintegrating Worldviews And The Future Of Catholic Education: Addressing The Deep Roots Of Catholic Disaffiliation, Patrick R. Manning
Disintegrating Worldviews And The Future Of Catholic Education: Addressing The Deep Roots Of Catholic Disaffiliation, Patrick R. Manning
Journal of Catholic Education
Catholic schools in this country continue to struggle with declining enrollment just as the wider American Church continues to struggle with rampant disaffiliation. While some Catholic educators have generated creative solutions to keep their schools afloat, the long-term viability of U.S. Catholic education will require understanding the deep roots of current disaffiliation trends in the gradual fading of the Christian worldview from Westerners’ imaginations. This article addresses this issue by interpreting sociological data about the faith lives of Catholics and Americans in general through the lens of contemporary research on secularization. Working from these interpretive insights, the author suggests concrete …
On Elemental Phenomenology: Sallis And Dzogchen Buddhism, Schwartz, Michael
On Elemental Phenomenology: Sallis And Dzogchen Buddhism, Schwartz, Michael
Journal of Conscious Evolution
John Sallis’ volumes on the Force of the Imagination (2000) and Logic of the Imagination (2012) constitute, in the field of contemporary Continental thought, a novel philosophical view of the elementals. Tibetan Buddhism has a more than a thousand-year old tradition of teaching about and practicing with the elements. This study is a preliminary exploration of the cross-currents of these two elemental teachings.
Uncovering The Lost Knowledge Of The Imagination In Films, Seda, Daniel A.
Uncovering The Lost Knowledge Of The Imagination In Films, Seda, Daniel A.
Journal of Conscious Evolution
Films have forever changed the way in which humans perceive reality and have provided significant opportunities to spread knowledge in ways that are both entertaining and deceptive. Uncovering the lost knowledge of the imagination shifts an individual’s perceptions of a shared experience and exposes film’s persuasive power to penetrate the psyche. This paper explores the constitutions of reality and how humans are able to tap into other realms of consciousness through mediums of creative expression. Topics such as the origins of life, the hidden knowledge of secret societies, and the burgeoning full disclosure movement for truth are discussed as a …
Imaginative Acts Of Resistance: Dramatic Storytelling In An Elementary School Classroom, Shannon K. Mcmanimon
Imaginative Acts Of Resistance: Dramatic Storytelling In An Elementary School Classroom, Shannon K. Mcmanimon
Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal
This critical ethnographic project draws upon literature on imagination, critical literacy, and theatre to explore a sixth-grade class’s participation in a critical literacy and creative drama program. Through examples from the storytelling practices of the Neighborhood Bridges program, I outline how students and teachers (including a teaching artist) imagined, co-created, and revised storylines in their classroom; this collaboration provides an alternative to the common narrative of the constrained urban public school classroom. The resulting imaginative acts of resistance: 1) encourage and empower urban elementary students to enact relevant, collaborative community in their classrooms; 2) engage meaningful—not just functional—literacies; 3) ask …

Are the philosophies and pedagogical practices of literature-based classrooms congruent with place-based classrooms? In this paper, the author argues that not only is imaginative literature compatible with place-based philosophies, but it can become a powerful centerpiece of a curriculum aimed at educating for a sense of place and inspiring life-long readers.
Empathy And Moral Laziness, Kathie Jenni
Empathy And Moral Laziness, Kathie Jenni
Animal Studies Journal
In The Empathy Exams Leslie Jamison offers an unusual perspective: ‘Empathy isn’t just something that happens to us – a meteor shower of synapses firing across the brain – it’s also a choice we make: to pay attention, to extend ourselves. It’s made of exertion, that dowdier cousin of impulse’ (23). This essay is dedicated to elaborating that crucial observation. A vast amount of recent research concerns empathy – in evolutionary biology, neurobiology, moral psychology, and ethics. I want to extend these investigations by exploring the degree to which individuals can control our empathy: for whom and what we feel …
Imagination And Aspiration: Flames Of Possibility For Migrant Background High School Students And Their Parents, Loshini Naidoo
Imagination And Aspiration: Flames Of Possibility For Migrant Background High School Students And Their Parents, Loshini Naidoo
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
This paper aims to show how imagination is an important tool in the formation of aspiration and ethnic capital for young high school students and their parents in the city of Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia. Through semi-structured focus group interviews with parents teachers and students, the data from the demographic space of the school revealed that despite the limitations in economic capital there was social and cultural capital in migrant families, which provided reinforcement for the realisation of various goals, especially through education and “hard work”. The students from migrant backgrounds had an opportunity to aspire and imagine a …
Imagination And Experience: An Integrative Framework, Mark Fettes
Imagination And Experience: An Integrative Framework, Mark Fettes
Democracy and Education
Three variations of experience identified in the educational literature entail different ways of thinking about and developing learners’ imaginations. The relationship between these different imaginative modes resembles shifts between different kinds of understanding in Kieran Egan’s theory of imaginative development. From this theoretical collision, a new framework emerges that gives greater weight to the connections between experience and imagination, and that may help to guide new forms of democratic educational practice.
