At the meeting of chemistry teachers interested in or teaching the CHEM Study course held at Roosevelt High School on December 7, 1963, concurrently with a meeting of biology teachers interested in BSCS and another meeting of PSSC Physics teachers, the problems of getting the new course more widely adopted were discussed.

The introduction of an organized science program in the elementary school has brought about a reorganization of the science offerings at the junior and high school levels. The background in science that is dev eloped at the elementary level has made it possible for the junior and senior high school science teachers to expand their programs. The problem that educators face is to determine what phases of science can be most effectively introduced in the elementary school.

The first regional Eastern Iowa Science Fair was held in Cedar Rapids in late March, 1960. The organizing efforts were furnished principally by the Cedar Rapids Council of Parent-Teacher Associations, under the energetic leadership of Dr. and Mrs. John F. Troxel. Affiliation with. NFS-I, sponsored by Science Service, Inc., Washington, D. C., was established.
