The current economic landscape in the United States invites, almost by default, a study on finances. As stated by Valenti, “Where do school leaders turn when growing taxpayer resistance and tightening economic conditions threaten to reduce local support and government aid?” (Harris, 2009, p.18) According to the New York State Commission on Property Tax Relief, Thomas R. Suozzi’s Final Report to Governor David A. Paterson, affirmed “New York has a problem” (Suozzi, 2008, p.12). According to Suozzi, [New York’s] 78th percentile [highest local tax rate] is “above the national average” (p.20). Further in the Report, Suozzi says, “From every perspective, …

The quantitative component was completed during an experiment involving school psychologists who reviewed student profiles of an African-American male student and a White male student with the same profile. The analysis looked to determine the frequency that the African-American student was classified …

Toward An Understanding Of Administrative Support For School-Based Play Therapy, Mary Anne Peabody

Education Doctoral

Play therapy exists with successful outcomes for young children. Despite the popularity and empirical support of play therapy, it is underutilized in the elementary school setting due to multiple individual and systemic barriers, which are indirectly or directly influenced by school administrator support. A Profile Of Achievement Motivation Among Ninth Grade Students At A Diverse Suburban High School, Pamela Taylor

Movement Is Medicine: The Effect Of A Structured Mobility Program On Functional Decline In Hospitalized Older Adults, Marie J. Bell May 2012

Movement Is Medicine: The Effect Of A Structured Mobility Program On Functional Decline In Hospitalized Older Adults, Marie J. Bell

Education Doctoral

Abstract Functional decline is defined as the consequence of physiological changes of aging resulting in the inability to perform self-care activities independently. Hospitalized older adults are more likely to decline in functional status resulting in longer length of stay. Hospital care is often focused on treating acute illness while functional status is overlooked. Low mobility and bedrest are common occurrences during hospitalization. The most predictable and probably most preventable cause of functional decline is deconditioning from bedrest and reduced mobility. The purpose of this study was to determine if an early ambulation program can maintain functional levels for hospitalized older …

School Board Members’ Perceptions Of Superintendent Leadership Behaviors In Upstate New York, Linda Rae Doty May 2012

School Board Members’ Perceptions Of Superintendent Leadership Behaviors In Upstate New York, Linda Rae Doty

Education Doctoral

School board members are concerned about the number of vacancies created by retiring superintendents and the difficulty finding individuals willing to take on the challenges of running a school district (Conrad & Rosser, 2007). School board members’ perceptions of superintendent behaviors contribute to the board-superintendent relationship (Tallerico, 2000). The relationship between school board members and superintendent is critical to the effectiveness of the superintendent and the stability of leadership in the superintendent position. The purpose of the study is to improve school districts by providing research leading to positive school board-superintendent relationships that bring about stability in the superintendent position. …
