Discovering Your Political Ideology [Brochure And Streaming Video], Adam Mayer, Zachary Marcum

Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)

The increasing political turmoil in the United States has had a powerful and divisive impact on college campuses. Disputes regarding the recent presidential election have bred hatred and distrust between those of competing political persuasions. As a result, colleges and universities attempt to educate their students on the political process and global issues. Following this political awakening, many young adults return home for holidays and find themselves at odds with the beliefs of their parents. This video was designed to inform students of the best way to communicate political differences to their family members. The authors utilize a short case …

Our video will show students how to incorporate safe practices into their vacations. We will go into detail about safe alcohol consumption, consent education, and basic emergency procedures. Our goal is that students will have the information they need to take care of themselves and their friends. We are using the below article as our theatrical basis, as well as information from the Harm Reduction Alliance, a coalition of fraternity and sorority …

Nonprofit Board Of Director Training: The Experiences Of Chief Executive Officers In Western Kentucky, Matthew L. Hunt

Dissertations

This reality-oriented inquiry investigates chief executive officers’ experiences of board training within 501(c)(3) nonprofit acute care hospitals. This study provides an insight into the practices, barriers, and drivers of board training. Katz’s (1955) skillsbased leadership model serves as the theoretical framework for this study. The model suggests leadership skills are not innate but can be developed through training. This qualitative study includes nine in-depth interviews with chief executive officers to acquire a rich description of the phenomenon of interest throughout nine 501(c)(3) nonprofit acute care hospitals.

A constant-comparative analysis and inductive analysis are employed to develop six themes related to …

The Influence Of Culture On The Use Of Healthcare Services By Refugees In Southcentral Kentucky: A Mixed Study, Chika N. Ejike

Dissertations

The world as a global village has become a ubiquitous trope in the popular discourse, and Bowling Green, Kentucky, with its substantial immigrant population, may be considered an exemplar of this idealized community. It has become an ideal location for research regarding the challenges faced by immigrants. Due to the diverse cultural identities of the refugee/immigrant population, it is particularly well suited for studies into complex culturally dependent healthcare utilization patterns.

The central research question for the study was as follows: What are the healthcare-seeking behavioral patterns (as influenced by culture) among refugees at their nearest healthcare facilities? This mixed …

Do You Want Kentucky?” “… No Thank You, I'M Not Hungry.”: A Case Study Of International Student Choice In Higher Education, Wouter Van Alebeek

Dissertations

In order to attract international students, it is important to know why students select a particular institution and how they experience the selection process. Additionally, there seems to be limited agreement among researchers on a conceptual framework for international student college choice and how it might differ from a model used to organize domestic students’ college choice experiences.

The purpose of this qualitative case study is to gain insight into the stages of college choice for international students by testing an expansion of the Hossler and Gallagher (1987) theoretical model that adds the push and pull factors related to the …

Think Large And Bring The World To Lyon: A Case Study Of Iae Lyon's International Week Program, Pamela J. Decker

Dissertations

Educational Leadership Doctoral Program Western Kentucky University As a result of globalization, the world truly is a smaller place. Today’s business school graduate no longer has to board a plane to transact with international markets—all that is needed is a mobile device and an internet connection. Therefore, a global mindset cannot be limited to only those students who have an opportunity to study abroad; universities must find ways to provide all students with international exposure. A review of the literature shows that, even though business schools are providing students with the necessary technical skills to work within a globalized economy, …

Using Explicit Social Skills Instruction Combined With A Restricted Interest Group To Increase The Frequency Of Social Skills In Students With Autism, Krista Shea Cummings

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The literature suggests that adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are characterized by restricted interests and deficits in social skills (White, Keonig, & Scahill, 2007). Due to the deficits associated with ASD, adolescents with ASD do not typically engage in social interactions at a rate similar to their same age typicallydeveloping peers (Wagner, Cadwallader, Garza, & Cameto, 2004). This study assessed whether explicit social skills instruction in a restricted interest group in an afterschool club setting increased the frequency of specific social skills in two students identified with ASD. A multiple baseline experimental design was implemented across behaviors. During baseline …
