Educators’ Perceptions About The Uses Of Primary Sources In Social Studies Classroom, Jeremiah Curtis Clabough
Educators’ Perceptions About The Uses Of Primary Sources In Social Studies Classroom, Jeremiah Curtis Clabough
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine what conceptions educators have regarding primary resources. The researcher attempted to answer the following questions:
- How do educators define primary sources?
- How do educators think primary sources should be used in the classroom?
- How, if at all, do educators currently use primary sources in the classroom and what are their reasons for their use or lack of use?
An online survey was distributed to the members of National Social Studies Supervisors Association (NSSSA). Members of NSSSA were selected because they are leaders in the field of social studies education and provided a …
Interactive Whiteboard Transition: A Case Study, Jason S Beach
Interactive Whiteboard Transition: A Case Study, Jason S Beach
Doctoral Dissertations
This case study examined the process teachers use when incorporating interactive whiteboards in the classroom and daily curriculum. Participants were drawn from a small group of three elementary and three high school teachers who received an interactive whiteboard, but no formal training. The school system purchased over 300 interactive whiteboards and was not able to adequately train all of the teachers before the beginning of the school year. Findings were compared to relevant models of andragogy, TPACK, and CBAM. The results indicate that a teacher’s prior technological ability aids in the implementation of new technologies in the classroom. The findings …
Getting Ready For The Test: The Impact Of School Restructuring On High School English Teachers, Todd Sloan Cherner
Getting Ready For The Test: The Impact Of School Restructuring On High School English Teachers, Todd Sloan Cherner
Doctoral Dissertations
As debates about how to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) continue, educational stakeholders need to consider the impact that No Child Left Behind’s (NCLB) accountability policies put on teachers working in low performing schools. Specifically, schools that annually struggle to achieve adequate yearly progress based on student test scores are narrowing the curriculum they offer students down to only teaching testable skills (Crocco & Costigan, 2007). As such, students who attended a school that taught them a narrowed curriculum only learned how to take high stakes tests and not how to compete in the 21st century …
Teaching Evaluator Competencies: An Examination Of Doctoral Programs, Susanne Anna Maria Kaesbauer
Teaching Evaluator Competencies: An Examination Of Doctoral Programs, Susanne Anna Maria Kaesbauer
Doctoral Dissertations
Program evaluators may currently enter the field of evaluation through a variety of avenues. Entry into the profession at this time is uncontrolled by a professional body of evaluators, as an evaluator certification process does not yet exist in the United States of America. One avenue for evaluators to enter into the profession is through a graduate training program in evaluation. This study sought to understand the preparedness of evaluators who enter the profession in this manner. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the current state of the teaching of evaluator competencies, across 26 doctoral evaluation programs in the United …

“I Was Born Full Deaf.” Written Language Outcomes After One Year Of Strategic And Interactive Writing Instruction (Siwi), Kimberly Wolbers, Hannah M. Dostal, Lisa M. Bowers
Theory and Practice in Teacher Education Publications and Other Works
Nonstandard grammatical forms are often present in the writing of deaf students which are rarely, if ever, seen in the writing of hearing students. With the implementation of Strategic and Interactive Writing Instruction (SIWI) in previous studies, students have demonstrated significant gains in high-level writing skills (e.g., text structure) but have also made gains with English grammar skills. This one-year study expands on prior research by longitudinally examining the written language growth (i.e., writing length, sentence complexity, sentence awareness and function words) of 29 deaf middle school students. A repeated-measures ANOVA with a between-subjects variable for literacy achievement level was …

The conceptual framework of this paper was based on the theories of Rotter (1966) and Bandura (1977). The review of literature indicated that teacher efficacy helps teachers plan effective instructional strategies, increases performance, and enhances teacher effectiveness and productively. On the other hand classroom management helps teachers to control students who have behavioral problems. Teacher efficacy researchers used and modified instruments to measure teacher efficacy construct. In conclusion, culture was identified as a variable that impacts upon teacher efficacy.

Can They Teach? A Look At How Professors Learn To Educate, Dr. Roger Hiemstra, Elisabeth S. Mccaffery
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
The purpose of this research project was to examine ways in which higher education professors are trained to teach. Eight professors from a small, liberal arts college in the northeast, who were also recipients of the college’s annual Teacher of the Year award, were observed in the classroom and interviewed about their educational training and background. By following the strategies of inductive reasoning and synthesizing these professors’ experiences and reflections, The author determined that many professors do not receive formal teaching training. The majority of the professors claimed to have learned to teach by trial and error and by emulating …
