Problem and significance. A conservative estimate shows that there are approximately 121,000 elementary school pupils regularly viewing educational television in New Mexico. Of this number, 66,000 are “enrolled” in science, 7,000 in Spanish, and 48,000 in music. For the KNME-TV program, Music 6, there are an estimated 15,000 sixth-grade students enrolled. For a state with a population of approximately 1,100,000, these are rather impressive figures---particularly since educational television has gained prominence only in the last decade. Researchers attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of this medium have produced hundreds of reports showing “no significant difference” between educational television and ordinary classroom …

There are two observations about which few people would disagree: that (in modern terminology) individual differences do exist (some people can do things that others cannot do), and that some learnings must be sequential (a child must learn to make noises before he can learn to talk). That individual differences do exist in virtually any area that can be isolated for inspection has been shown in many studies and experiments; that their existence has strong implications in education has also been repeatedly shown.

It was the purpose of this study to compare verbal concepts of color of both seeing and blind children. This comparison was undertaken to see if the blind child has both emotional-psychological and physical-descriptive concepts of color which are similar to those of seeing children when expressed verbally. This was done by interviewing a group of blind children and a group of seeing children and asking them what they thought and felt concerning color. The term higher education for Negroes is usually applied to that intellectual training received by Negroes after the time of Emancipation and Reconstruction when inspired missionaries and democratic legislatures first established schools for the education of the ex-slaves. That this period marked the beginning of a systematized method of lifting the veils of ignorance from the eyes of the freedman is not to be doubted. It may be historically incorrect, however, to designate these efforts as the first attempts to educate the Negro, and especially may this be true with regard to the appellation "higher education."

The purpose was to investigate and trace the establishment, growth, and philosophy of the Presbyterian church schools in New Mexico. It was also an attempt to determine the relationship of these schools to public education.

This was a historical research. Reports of the Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction in New Mexico were used. Statistics were secured from the State Department of Education and from current church school teachers. Histories of the state, education, and church in books and theses were utilized.
