Omani English Language Learners’ Proficiency With Idioms, Khalid Almashikhi
Student Work
The purpose of this pretest/posttest quasi-experimental study was to explore the strategies English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students use on understanding the meanings of idioms both in oral and written submissions. The study also investigated the strategies on comprehending the meaning of idioms and improving idiomatic vocabularies in the language learning processes to both English teachers and students. Further, the study began to identify the criteria of idiom and idiom-understanding aspects so that the identified EFL students will be able to guess and become familiar with frequently used idioms and their desired contexts. Omani university students in English 101 …

“Dosage” Decisions For Early Intervention Services, Miriam E. Kuhn, Christine A. Marvin
Special Education and Communication Disorders Faculty Publications
Evan is 2 years old. He has been referred by his pediatrician to the early intervention program in his small town due to signs of global developmental delay. Evan says two words—ma (for mom, dad, or grandma) and ba (for bottle). He is still on a bottle and rejects many table foods. Evan began walking 4 months ago, and still falls down quite a bit. Although his parents report that Evan is generally a happy toddler, when he becomes upset, he is prone to intense temper tantrums that include screaming and kicking. His parents handle these episodes in a calm, …

State Of The University Address, Uno Office Of The Chancellor
Chancellor’s Speeches
Good afternoon, and welcome to the 2015 State of the University Address.
On August 26, 2015, the Omaha World-Herald published an editorial titled: “Mavs move to the big time.” The region’s largest newspaper said this of our university:
“There’s something deeper brewing, a sense of Maverick pride.”
If you walk around UNO today, in very little time, you will feel the pride and the momentum thriving in this place we call home. The spirit among students, faculty, and staff is unlike anything I have witnessed – or felt – in my forty years as a Maverick.

New Student Wellness Survey Exec Summary 2-2015, Uno Student Affairs
Student Support
The New Student Wellness Survey (NSWS) was first implemented in Fall 2013 based on the University’s focus on student wellness and Dr. Shipp’s philosophy of being “intentionally intrusive” to improve student wellbeing and experience at UNO. The survey initially consisted of 22 questions that covered the 8 areas of wellness, program completion information, and supplemental information. After the first year, we re-evaluated the survey, and expanded it to 35 possible questions and made many of the new questions dynamic or open text fields.

The Survey: The New Student Wellness Survey (NSWS) is a 35 question survey completed by new incoming students as part of the Orientation sign up process. The NSWS was first implemented in the fall semester of 2013, and 2015 is the third consecutive year that this project has been worked on. Results from this year are consistent with previous findings.
