The University of Maine volleyball team will have the luxury of returning seven seniors to its 2008 squad. The seven seniors have combined to play in 1,413 sets in their careers. The seven seniors on the squad include Ashlee Wright, Jessica Wolfenden, Amy Lawson, Lindsay Allman, Brittany Kiehl, Margaret Page and Laura Goettsch. Six of the seniors - not including Goettsch - were on the 2005 team …

For the first time since volleyball returned to Orono in 1999, head coach Sue Medley can look up and down her bench and say, “We’ve got experience.” After starting only one senior last year and seeing the program’s first three-year letter winner, the UMaine volleyball program now has the depth and experience it may have been lacking in previous years. “We had an extraordinarily young team last year and some younger players were able to get a lot of playing time in,” said Medley, who is in her fifth season with the Black Bears. “In addition, we have brought in …

"I feel like this is the best volleyball team we’ve ever assembled at the University of Maine.” Strong words from Head Coach Sue Medley, who begins her third year at the helm of the Black Bear Volleyball program. After enduring a winless 1999 campaign, in UMaine’s return to NCAA Division I play after a 16-year absence, Medley led a talented bunch of newcomers to a 12-18 record in 2000. Head coach Sue Medley is all smiles when she describes her second-year volleyball team. “It’s a whole new ball game,” she says. And in many ways it is just that. Last year, the Black Bears returned to the hardwood of Memorial Gymnasium for their first season since the program was disbanded following the 1983 season. It was a whole new ball game already. Last season was the first season of volleyball at the University of Maine since the program lost its varsity status following the 1983 season.
