The Effects Of Positive Behavioral Interventions And Supports On Emotional Regulation In Preschool Children, Alyssa Richardson
The Effects Of Positive Behavioral Interventions And Supports On Emotional Regulation In Preschool Children, Alyssa Richardson
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Practice Innovation Projects
Purpose: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework that supports children and their behavioral needs including emotional behaviors. Emotional behavioral problems (EBP) seen at an early age have a major connection to their preschool setting and a significant effect on future long-term mental and physical health outcomes. 11
Methods: Preintervention, teachers completed PBIS and Teacher Observations of Classroom Adaptation-Checklist (TOCA-C) training. The teachers evaluated and assigned each student to a PBIS tier group using TOCA-C. Tier appropriate interventions were then implemented. TOCA-C was used 3 months post intervention to reevaluate each months post intervention to …

In this lesson, students will use a simple DNA extraction solution and isopropyl alcohol to extract DNA from strawberries, banana, kiwi, and watermelon. The extraction solution consists of dish detergent, water, and table salt. Grinding or crushing the soft fruit tissue will separate the cells. The dish detergent breaks down the membranes, exposing the DNA to the solution. The salt helps the DNA molecule to stick together from the proteins. The cold alcohol dissolves everything but the DNA, which forms an insoluble layer of the DNA allowing it to be visible.

Upon entering college, students around the United States are exposed to alcohol and the potentially dangerous experiences and effects that come with consuming alcohol. Whether the individual is a general college student or a college student-athlete, the issues are prevalent. According to the 2014 United States Census, there are approximately 23 million students attending U.S. colleges. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), there are 460,000 student-athletes across the United States (NCAA, 2017). When National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) student-athletes are included, the overall number then surpasses 500,000. A student-athlete (SA) can be defined as an individual who …

Assessing The Relationship Between Principal Priorities, Written Wellness Policies, And School Wellness Policy Implementation, Courtney Trapp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the relationship between principal priorities, written wellness policies, and school wellness policy implementation. Methods: Principal priorities of nutrition and physical activity, written wellness policy quality and degree of policy implementation were assessed in 95 schools from eight states using the principal priorities questionnaire, the Wellness School Assessment Tool (WellSAT) version 2.0, and the Wellness School Assessment Tool for Implementation (WellSAT-I), respectively. Data is analyzed using Stata Statistical Software: Release 15. All data is presented as means ± standard error Statistical significant was set at p≤0.05.

The Relationship Between Campus Wellness Center Usage And Symptoms Of Depression In College Freshmen, Allison Leonard
The Relationship Between Campus Wellness Center Usage And Symptoms Of Depression In College Freshmen, Allison Leonard
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There is limited research done on the relationship between the program utilization at a campus wellness facility and the symptoms of depression in college freshmen. College students have been found to have a higher prevalence of depressive symptoms than the general population, possibly due to the stressors college life can add. Studies have been done on the effects of physical activity as an intervention for depression as well as on the benefits of campus wellness facilities; however, there have been few studies that look at both campus recreation and depression. The author’s purpose for this study was to see if …

Health and Nutritional Sciences Faculty Publications
Background: Using a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach may increase the likelihood of relevance and acceptability of the designed intervention, especially on a college campus. Furthermore, recruiting and training college students to design a social marketing framed healthy lifestyle intervention for their peers will allow the intervention to be tailored to the needs of the campus. Objectives: To describe the process of online-course training college students to develop a campus-based, social marketing health promotion intervention. Methods: Four universities recruited current college students (18+ y.o.) to develop a social marketing and environmental intervention (SMEI), which was completed during a 16-week, online/in-person …
Reach Out And Read Program: Incorporating Early Literacy Promotion Into Practice, Melanie Miller
Reach Out And Read Program: Incorporating Early Literacy Promotion Into Practice, Melanie Miller
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Practice Innovation Projects
Purpose: The purpose of this project was to increase the number of days per week parents read to their children ages six months to five years in order to increase literacy, brain and language development, and improve parent-child relationships and health outcomes.
Review of Literature: Between birth and age five, 90% of a child’s brain development occurs (Theriot et al., 2003). The Reach Out and Read© program is an evidence-based program incorporating books into well-child visits by primary care providers ages 6 months to 5 years (Reach Out and Read©, 2014). After being introduced to literacy programs, frequency of shared …
The Impact Of Standardized Patients On Physical Assessment Skills, Clinical Judgment, And Self-Efficacy In Undergraduate Nursing Students, Allison Mueller
The Impact Of Standardized Patients On Physical Assessment Skills, Clinical Judgment, And Self-Efficacy In Undergraduate Nursing Students, Allison Mueller
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The healthcare industry is seeing constant changes in patient acuity, expanding care environments, new healthcare policies, and continual advancements in research and technology. To overcome these challenges, nurses must receive education that adequately prepares them with confidence, clinical judgment, and the proper skills to provide safe and quality care to patients. More specifically, nurses must have strong physical assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and high levels of self-efficacy (Chong, Lim, Liu, Lau, & Wu, 2016; Institute of Medicine (IOM), 2010). Peer physical assessments are generally the standard for practicing and validating physical assessment skills (Slater, Bryant, & Ng, 2016). Standardized …

Nursing is a practice profession that requires a transfer of learning to clinical practice (Billings, 2000). Clinical practice settings for nursing education have changed drastically from directly supervised, inpatient care settings to indirectly supervised, community based settings. Indeed, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing ( 1993) specifically emphasizes the need for master's programs to incorporate more educational opportunities for health promotion interventions to families and aggregates within community based settings. Furthermore, there is increasing demand for practitioners to assess and care for rural patients using technologic mediums like telehealth, telemedicine, telehome, teleradiology, telepsychiatry and virtual medical centers (Bachman & …

Curriculum guidelines from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing ( [ AACN], 1998) espouse that baccalaureate programs facilitate the development of professional values. The five core nursing values include human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism, and social justice. Behaviors that reflect these values characterize the caring, professional nurse (AACN, 1998). Teaching attitudes and actions that facilitate caring is a curriculum challenge. Caring is a multi-dimensional nursing concept that can be actualized through purposeful teaching and student-centered learning of core nursing values. This scholarly paper presents an innovative and integrative approach to value-based education in the baccalaureate nursing program at South …
