A Study Of Dictation And Transcription Practices In Kansas Class A Public Supported High Schools, Ronald E. Bailey

This study was made to determine the present status of the dictation and transcription phases of shorthand in the public supported high schools in Kansas. In collecting the data necessary for the study, check lists were mailed to 69 public supported high schools; these were the Class A high schools in Kansas having an enrollment of 250 or more. The findings from the study show that approximately one-half of the schools approve of dictation and transcription as a separate course; however, only one school stated that dictation and transcription are offered as a separate course. The purpose of this study was to determine the qualifications required for successful saleswork as interpreted by employers who hire salespeople, the salespeople themselves, the consumers who buy from salespeople, and the instructors who teach salesmanship in the two-year colleges of Kansas. Data was collected by means of a check list filled out by sixteen retail employers, fourteen retail salespeople, ten traveling salespeople, eight door-to-door salespeople, thirteen salespeople who sell a service, twelve consumers, and thirteen salesmanship instructors. This study is an attempt to evaluate the practices of eight South-east Kansas secondary-school administrators concerning school libraries located in eight counties. Previous library studies have generally disclosed serious inadequacies. Administrators are responsible for conditions in any part of the school, and this study attempts to discover how nearly existing administrative practices agree with principles and practices accepted by library science authorities. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvements needed in the professional education curricula for elementary teachers at Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kansas. Questionnaires were sent to 114 persons who had been graduated from K.S.T.C. since 1940. The questionnaire requested the respondents to evaluate the education and psychology course offerings in the light of their value to an elementary teacher. Study reports findings and recommendations for improvement.
