President Dr. Cheryl Green
As Illinois moves into Phase Four of the “Restore Illinois” Public Health Approach to Safely Reopen our State, Governors State University (the “University” or “GSU”) will begin to bring some of our students, faculty, and staff back onto campus. Dual Degree Program Guidebook, Student Affairs And Enrollment Management
Student Affairs Reports
This Guidebook is designed to encourage unprecedented cooperation between four-year institutions and community colleges. The advice goes far beyond articulation to creating a culture of cooperation and inclusion.
From the time of widespread establishment of community colleges until now, clearing a pathway from the two-year college to baccalaureate graduation was assumed to be the sole responsibility of the community college. The university or liberal arts college served more as gatekeeper than facilitator. As a result, community college students, often the first in their families to pursue post-secondary education, were expected to navigate two complex bureaucracies with help only from the …
Prototypical Thinking Of Teachers Regarding Students Labeled With A Disability, Philip Boudreau
Prototypical Thinking Of Teachers Regarding Students Labeled With A Disability, Philip Boudreau
Faculty Research and Creative Activity
With recent changes in the legislative directions (NCLB and IDEIA 2004) affecting education and the support to students with special needs, new thoughts have emerged in the identification, assessment, placement, and instruction of these students. The purpose of this study was to explore the prototypical thinking of teachers toward students with disabilities based on the categorical labels used in the classification of students. Social Cognitive and Ecological Theory provided a structure for a risk-resiliency framework to guide the research. Regular (n=18) and Special Education (n=18) teachers rated the categorical label stimuli on the two constructs of risk and resiliency. A …

Using Digitized Primary Sources From The Library Of Congress's American Memory Collection To Enliven Nursing Issues And History Curriculum (Multimedia Presentation), Catherine Tymkow, Shirley Comer, Paul M. Blobaum
Faculty Research and Creative Activity
Background: A cohort of faculty from Governors State University were chosen to receive technology training and develop web based education projects incorporating digitized primary sources from the Library of Congress' American Memory Collection in May 2006. Using a constructivist framework, three web-enhanced projects, which are works in progress, were developed to illumine and enliven nursing's history for today's learner. These projects utilize digitized primary sources, which are defined as documents or other sources of information created at or near the time being studied. Use of primary sources is not common in nursing and represents a new approach to enhancing nursing …

University Anniversaries & Historical Documents
Over the past year the campus for the new Governors State University in Park Forest South has been under study. It has been investigated not just from the standpoint of how the physical characteristics of the site will eventually accommodate structures; but by the many factors that will ultimately contribute to the overall success of the institution. Study Of A Contemporary Effort To Build A Prototype College In Suburbia, Samual Patrick Kelly
Park Forest
This case study covers the first stages of a contemporary effort by a group of citizens to plan and thereby satisfy certain educational needs of those outlying communities of Chicago collectively known as "south suburbia". The college is intended to serve not only the local locale but also to serve as a prototype for similar institutions in other sub-metropolitan areas. The study was undertaken with the expectation that a detailed, analytic attempt at an examination of a particular attempt to meet needs for higher education would illuminate a number of conditions affecting the establishment and operation of higher institutions of …
