Six Steps To Making Positive Changes In Your Teaching, Judith Longfield Apr 2015

Six Steps To Making Positive Changes In Your Teaching, Judith Longfield

Teaching Academy

I’m working my way through a 33-page review of scholarship on instructional change in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. The authors reviewed an impressive 191 conceptual and empirical journal articles. However, what they found isn’t impressive both in terms of the quality of the scholarship on this topic and in terms of instructional change in general. It’s not the first article I’ve read of late on the various barriers that stand in the way of change in higher education. The literature is not encouraging, but I think there are some fairly straightforward principles that give any new teaching …

Restricted Sum Formula Of Alternating Euler Sums, Jianqiang Zhao Apr 2015

Restricted Sum Formula Of Alternating Euler Sums, Jianqiang Zhao

Department of Mathematical Sciences Faculty Publications

In this paper, we study restricted sum formulas involving alternating Euler sums which are defined by ζ(s1,…,sd;ε1,…,εd)=∑n1>⋯>nd≥1εn11⋯εnddns11⋯nsdd,

for all positive integers s 1,…,s d and ε 1=±1,…,ε d =±1 with (s 1,ε 1)≠(1,1). We call w=s 1+⋯+s d the weight and d the depth. When ε j =−1 we say the jth component is alternating. We first consider Euler sums of the following special type: ξ(2s1,…,2sd)=ζ(2s1,…,2sd;(−1)s1,…,(−1)sd).

For dn, let Ξ(2n,d) be the sum of all ξ(2s 1,…,2s d ) …

Rubrics For Easily And Accurately Assessing Speaking And Listening Proficiency From Novice Through Distinguished, Catherine T. Johnson Mar 2015

Rubrics For Easily And Accurately Assessing Speaking And Listening Proficiency From Novice Through Distinguished, Catherine T. Johnson

South East Coastal Conference on Languages & Literatures (SECCLL)

Accurately assessing student performance helps instructors develop more effective classroom materials to increase proficiency in the target language. In order to facilitate this process in my classroom, I have developed rubrics for Speaking and Listening that are based on ACTFL guidelines, and that can be easily modified to suit the specific needs of any language at all levels from Novice through Distinguished. Thus, these rubrics can be very useful not only for the individual instructor, but also for language departments that wish to use a common rubric for assessing student performance.

At the end of the session, participants will be …

El Nuevo Programa De Lengua Para El Primer Ciclo En Coastal Carolina University, Yun Sil Jeon

South East Coastal Conference on Languages & Literatures (SECCLL)
