A Time For The Humanities: Futurity And The Limits Of Autonomy, James J. Bono, Tim Dean, Ewa P. Ziarek

Education

This book brings together an international roster of renowned scholars from disciplines including philosophy, political theory, intellectual history, and literary studies to address the conceptual foundations of the humanities and the question of their future. What notions of the future, of the human, and of finitude underlie recurring anxieties about the humanities in our current geopolitical situation? How can we think about the unpredictable and unthought dimensions of praxis implicit in the very notion of futurity?

The essays here argue that the uncertainty of the future represents both an opportunity for critical engagement and a matrix for invention. Broadly conceived, …

Fordham University is the quintessential American-Catholic institution—and one now looked upon as among the best Catholic universities in the country. Its story is also the story of New York, especially the Bronx, and Fordham’s commitment to the city during its rise, fall, and rebirth. It’s a story of Jesuits, soldiers, alumni who fought in World Wars, chaplains, teachers, and administrators who made bold moves and big mistakes, of presidents who thought small and those who had vision. Corporate Governance: The Revival Of An Academic, Professional, And Policy Field, Juan P. Artero

McGannon Center Working Paper Series

This paper explores the basic concepts of corporate governance in relation to its intellectual foundations and historical development. The basic assumption relies on the fact that the reinforcement of corporate governance as an academic, professional, and policy field is a consequence of the many corporate failures that have occurred in recent years, mainly since 2002. Most theoretical developments for this new moment in history have been borrowed from the same academics and practitioners that reflected and worked on the field after the 1929 economic crash, with deep origin on general social scientific research. In addition, corporate governance is growing as …

Leadership By Design: How A Team Experience Shaped Teachers’ Views Of Themselves As Leaders, Elizabeth Gil

When I began to consider what I felt was an important question about my school environment, I turned to my thoughts on leadership in my school building. I wanted to know: “How does a teacher’s level of involvement in planning or facilitating professional development impact his/her view of him/herself as a teacher/leader in a school?” As time passed and I refined my question, I specifically considered one group of teachers in my school. I wondered: How have teachers’ perceptions of themselves as leaders evolved over the course of their membership on the school’s Design Team. The Design Team is a …
