In recognition of this multi-faceted problem of selecting poems to use with first grade, it is the purpose of this study (1) to establish criteria of evaluation and selection, relating that criteria to the bases of poetry criticism, (2) using that criteria, to compile an anthology for use with first grade, and (3) to explicate each of the selected poems in such a manner as to help the teacher better understand and appreciate the particular poetic qualities of that poem, and hence be more effective in using that poem in the classroom.

The purpose of this historical study is formally: (1) to recognize the development of the Selah and Moxee Irrigation District; (2) to show the importance of water to the East Selah and Moxee valleys; (3) to show the enterprise and struggle of the people of the East Selah and Moxee valleys in bringing the water to their lands; and (4) to show the Selah and Moxee Irrigation District's independent operation, yet dependency on the Yakima Project for storage water.

I have concentrated my investigation on the areas of reproductive activity and burrowing habits, but will comment on other aspects of their ecology when pertinent. It will be done in such a manner as to be (1.) aesthetically satisfactory, (2.) appropriate to the play, its historical period, and social conditions of the characters, (3.) aligned with the demands of stage presentation, in that it provides the necessary space for stage movements, and traffic, (4.) practical for construction within the limits imposed by the stage of McConnell Auditorium.

Realizing that the parents play an important role in the counseling program, the primary purpose of this study was to prove that parents and students feel the counseling program provides an opportunity for parents to understand the abilities and needs of their youngsters and to share in their educational planning. It is contended that no matter what limitations the student may have, it is possible through parent-counselor conferences to better understand his needs. Then the home and school can work together in establishing a more satisfying environment.

It is the purpose of this study to investigate the merits of the "Washington Foundation Plan" as opposed to the supplanted state apportionment formula of 1965. Procedures of the foundation approach to state support will be applied to operating school districts to compare funds available under that system with those available under the previous method. This study intends to apply the plan to the high school districts of an entire county so that the financial impact of the newly-adopted approach upon small as well as large districts will be thoroughly understood.

Past experience has revealed a definite need to release children, at least partially, from the traditional ability groupings and allow more flexible groupings. The past also revealed that individual children's unique interests and abilities were not being provided for. Since the teaching of reading occupies a central position in the elementary grades, and since children have a wide range of reading abilities and interests, an investigation of individualized reading was prompted.
