Abstract: After many natural disasters, a sanitary disaster overwhelms the planet earth, the COVID19 pandemic. Alexandre Najjar writes about this crisis in a novel translate as “The devil’s crown”. The author uses the way of testimony to describe the way the characters live the confinement in different countriesand the consequences of an unprecedent situation on the psyche: fear of the other, feeling imprisoned, powerlessness. The intervention includes the analysis of the title, the choice of the polyphonyand the similarity between this novel and an ancient tragedy.

Called by Time the “theater event of the year,” Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses brings Ovid’s tales to stunning visual life. Set in and around a large pool of water, Metamorphoses juxtaposes the ancient and the contemporary in both language and image to reflect the variety and persistence of narrative in the face of inevitable change. Nominated for three 2002 Tony Awards, including “Best Play,” Metamorphoses earned Zimmerman a Tony for “Best Direction of a Play.”

The main goal of this dissertation is to examine the presence of le machiavel in the seventeenth century tragedies of Jean Racine. It focuses on all of his tragedies and closely examines what characters have the traits of le machiavel. Furthermore, it examines how le machiavel influences the outcome of the tragedy at the end.

The Pulse Nightclub Tragedy in Orlando shocked the nation, after a gunman who identified as being Muslim walked in to a gay nightclub and gunned down 49 people and injured 53 more. In addition to the LGBTQ+ community being targeted, the Latinx community had been targeted as well, considering it was Latin night. With many of those affected being of traditional college age, local colleges and universities took action to offer support. Focusing on the Pulse shooting, I explored the ways in which higher education institutions offered support after this tragedy occurred, while reviewing other tragedies and the responses by …

This is a five-week unit that explores Shakespearean tragedy using Macbeth. The unit focuses on the literary elements of character motivation, foil, paradox, and the motifs of making decisions and good/moral vs. evil/immoral.

In this story, the bold yet cursed princess Antigone, daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, chooses to confront her unmovable uncle/king about his decision to dishonor her brother by refusing his burial. This is a four-week unit that introduces Greek tragedy using Sophocles’ Oedipus the King and Antigone. The unit explores the elements of Greek tragedy to include the scene of suffering, the unities of time, place, and subject, and catharsis.
