Special Education And Pupil Personnel Services Offered By The Utah State Board Of Education, Mark J. Bankhead
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
In the United States responsibility for education is a function of the state, local school districts derive their authority from the state legislature (Graham, 1962). For many years, especially during the 19th century, the only legislative provision for the education of handicapped children was the limited support of state institutions and residential schools. Recent federal court decisions have substantiated the right of handicapped children to equal protection under the law, including an education, and made state departments of education "solely responsible for providing handicapped children with a free and public education appropriate to their individual capacities." (Abeson, 1972, p. 11) …

Implementation Of Previous Research On Competency-Based Practicum In Special Education At Usu, Clifton W. Jenkins
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
There is a very real need for exploration and development of alternative approaches to special education (Lilly, 1971). Some have questioned the necessity of teachers receiving preservice training at teacher education institutions (Popham, 1971). Schwartz (1971) suggested that teachers need special training before being placed in a diagnostic-prescriptive teaching situation.
The recent trend is to integrate the special student into the regular classroom. This requires that special educators be trained to perform specialized assessment and provide remedial instruction for a variety of exceptional children in a way that is compatible with regular classroom routine and procedure (Burrello, Tracy, and Schultz, …
Sexism In Special Education, Patricia H. Gillespie, Albert H. Fink
Sexism In Special Education, Patricia H. Gillespie, Albert H. Fink
IUSTITIA
The educational establishment is now reflecting the concerns of womanhood. Grudgingly, and even painfully, it seems to some, the large and complicated system of formal education acknowledges the existence of practices which are sexist both in conception and operation. At one level this sexism is directed, at many levels of awareness, toward the functionaries of the system. The economic oppression of teachers, who are mostly female, is an obvious expression of the phenomenon. Another benchmark is the limited career development opportunities available to women as educational managers and academics.
At yet another level, not the less dangerous for being more …

Conditioning Expressive Language In A Nonverbal Child, Frederick R. Moll
Conditioning Expressive Language In A Nonverbal Child, Frederick R. Moll
All Master's Theses
The problem of treating the child with delayed speech acquisition has generated a considerable amount of research and these studies have pointed out the need for further work in this area. The purpose of this study is to test the procedures of one particularly effective study, that of Dr. Burl B. Gray at the Monterey Institute for Speech and Hearing in Monterey, California. By removing it from the clinical setting of the Institute, with its unusually well-trained and highly specialized staff, and by successfully employing its procedures using comparatively untrained personnel, it was felt that this program might be applied …

Relationship Of Weather Phenomena And Disruptive Behavior In Special Education Classrooms, Carol Bartlett Ryno
Relationship Of Weather Phenomena And Disruptive Behavior In Special Education Classrooms, Carol Bartlett Ryno

If a clear-cut relationship between weather phenomena and human behavior could be established, the case for controlled atmosphere in industry, commerce, and education would be strengthened. In the area of education, classroom procedures and learning tasks could be varied in accordance with the weather. This dimension could provide for insights into misbehavior and might enable school personnel to deal with such misbehavior more effectively.
The purpose of the present investigation was to gather information pertaining to the relationship of various weather phenomena and disruptive behavior in the classroom. It was intended that the present study differ from that reported by …

The Growth And Development Of A Program For Exceptional Children In The State Of West Virginia, Marcia Walker Blandau
The Growth And Development Of A Program For Exceptional Children In The State Of West Virginia, Marcia Walker Blandau
Master's Theses
West Virginia is a comparatively young state. Special Education in the public schools is younger still. Throughout the history of West Virginia, the state has had financial difficulties and political factions. When West Virginia became a state she had no institutions, no social organs to provide for the general welfare, no common schools, no normal schools, and no university. Within sixty-five years the state had provided twelve institutions tor exceptional children. And today, six years before the state celebrates its first centennial, West Virginia has a well established special education program.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the …
