Predicting K-12 Teacher Self-Efficacy From Neuroscience Literacy Factors, Tobey Lewis Nichols Jun 2022

Predicting K-12 Teacher Self-Efficacy From Neuroscience Literacy Factors, Tobey Lewis Nichols

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to explore how K-12 teachers’ self-efficacy correlates to their neuroscience literacy factors--a combination of scientific concept of learning and memory and belief in neuromyths. What teachers know about learning, memory, and the brain influences their instructional strategies and achieving academic goals. The better understanding a teacher has of learning, memory and the brain, the higher efficacy teachers’ have to execute the necessary actions to achieve desired teaching goals. A sample of 110 K-12 certified teachers were recruited from a large school district in East Tennessee to participate in this present study. Data …

Exploring The Neural Mechanisms Of Physics Learning, Jessica E. Bartley Nov 2018

Exploring The Neural Mechanisms Of Physics Learning, Jessica E. Bartley

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents a series of neuroimaging investigations and achievements that strive to deepen and broaden our understanding of human problem solving and physics learning. Neuroscience conceives of dynamic relationships between behavior, experience, and brain structure and function, but how neural changes enable human learning across classroom instruction remains an open question. At the same time, physics is a challenging area of study in which introductory students regularly struggle to achieve success across university instruction. Research and initiatives in neuroeducation promise a new understanding into the interactions between biology and education, including the neural mechanisms of learning and development. These …

From Idea To Practice: The Brain-Based Research Team, Alexis Wright Jan 2015

From Idea To Practice: The Brain-Based Research Team, Alexis Wright

Progressive Education in Context

A cohort of teachers in the Bank Street School for Children spent a year in professional development around brain-based research and shared their knowledge with the rest of the teaching faculty with the plan to incorporate the research into practice.

Effects Of Using A Neuroeducational Intervention To Enhance Perseverance For Online Edd And Eds Students, Charles Cadle Apr 2013

Effects Of Using A Neuroeducational Intervention To Enhance Perseverance For Online Edd And Eds Students, Charles Cadle

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Developing and maintaining a "completion mindset" is a necessary mental condition for online educational doctorate (EdD) and educational specialist (EdS) students to obtain their advanced degrees. The purpose of this research study was to examine the effect of a neuroeducational intervention on a volunteer convenience sample of EdD and EdS students enrolled in online research and analysis courses at a private central Virginia university to determine if the intervention would have a positive effect on the level of perseverance through the stages of practical inquiry when compared to a control group. The independent variable was a web-based instructional method consisting …

Neurosciences And Education: One Example Of A Two-Way Cooperation, Armando F. Rocha, Fábio T. Rocha Jan 2008

Neurosciences And Education: One Example Of A Two-Way Cooperation, Armando F. Rocha, Fábio T. Rocha

Armando F Rocha

The relationship between education and cognitive neuroscience is an old issue from which the idea of the ‘neuroeducators’ was proposed 25 years ago. The premise of this idea is that the knowledge about how the brain operates our learning could help teachers in the classrootm. Despite of being an old issue, there are yet some unsolved matters. Firstly, how neuroscience and education could integrate biological understanding about learning cerebral process has not been yet clearly discussed. The present paper presents the results from Enscer– Teaching the Brain Project – that has been developed in Brazil for five years. During that …
