Media Literacy And Informatics: Parental Prejudice And Expectations Regarding A New School Discipline, Eveline Hipeli
Journal of Media Literacy Education
In August 2018, a new school discipline, Media Literacy and Informatics, was introduced in Switzerland. This article provides an overview of the current situation regarding the new school discipline, and its development. The article shows how schools already taught Media Literacy and Informatics. The article also sheds light on what Swiss parents expect from the new school discipline, and what they actually know about its composition. The results from a small pre-study indicate that parents express different expectations and prejudices regarding Media Literacy and Informatics, depending on the age of their children. The majority of the parents in the sample …

Recommender systems (RS) in their majority focus on an average target user: adults. We argue that for non-traditional populations in specific contexts, the task is not as straightforward–we must look beyond existing recommendation algorithms, premises for interface design, and standard evaluation metrics and frameworks. We explore the complexity of RS in an educational context for which young children are the target audience. The aim of this position paper is to spell out, label, and organize the specific layers of complexity observed in this context.

Honoring Diversity In An Online Classroom: Approaches Used By Instructors Engaging Through An Lms, Jacob Petersen
Honoring Diversity In An Online Classroom: Approaches Used By Instructors Engaging Through An Lms, Jacob Petersen
Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This is an inquiry into how online instructors embrace the diversity of their student body while facing the inherent differences between a traditional face-to-face class and one that is taught online. Current research suggests that diversity in a traditional classroom is an asset if the instructor is sensitive to students’ backgrounds. This paper examines if such philosophies in traditional classrooms translate well into a distance education environment, where the student body may be even more diverse than a face-to-face class, but possibly unrecognizable because of the lack of physical cues. Research on the topic of multiculturalism in an online classroom …

Growing Ideas - Building Belonging: Providing Guidance For Social Skill Development, University Of Maine Center For Community Inclusion And Disability Studies
Early Childhood Resources
As young children with and without disabilities grow, they are learning how to develop relationships with others and to be members of a community. All children need support to learn and achieve these important life skills. The process adults use to teach and support this learning is known as guidance. Effective guidance assumes the following conditions: Respect, understanding, and appreciation for every child’s unique qualities; Knowledge that children’s mistaken behaviors provide learning opportunities; An encouraging community where every child belongs and feels safe; and a developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive setting.

G90-991 Parenting Your Child Effectively (Revised November 2003), Kathy Bosch, Herbert G. Lingren
G90-991 Parenting Your Child Effectively (Revised November 2003), Kathy Bosch, Herbert G. Lingren
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide contains guidelines to help parents interact with their children.
Parenting is both an action and an attitude! Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs you will have. One of the most difficult aspects of parenthood is the multitude of split-second decisions needed to guide and discipline children.
Although parenting is never easy, it becomes considerably more manageable when parents look at their attitudes about raising children. If they wish to change their parenting styles or improve discipline techniques, they need to begin by looking at how they "correct" their children's misbehavior and how they feel afterward.
The Value Of The Parent-Teacher Conference, Suteerat Ungjaroen
The Value Of The Parent-Teacher Conference, Suteerat Ungjaroen
All Master's Theses
Many of the problems of an individual pupil's education can be solved through a harmonious attitude between his parents and teacher. Through this harmonious relationship, the parent can find out what the child is like at school and the teacher can find out what the child is like at home. From this composite picture, the parents and teacher can determine what the child needs, both at home and at school. However, it must be understood that good parent-teacher conferences do not just happen. As a matter of fact, the beginning teacher faces a difficult problem of communicating effectively with the …

Programs Of Guidance And Counseling As They Relate To Young People And Their Preparation For Work, William E. Mortimer
Applied Sciences, Technology and Education Faculty Publications
There is evidence on every hand that one of the important needs in present day and future education is good guidance and counseling. Although some guidance and counseling programs have been in operation for many years, only recently have they blossomed forth into the significant place in education which they now occupy. The rapid growth has brought about numerous problems, many of which are yet unsolved. Among these important unsolved problems are the following: What are the real duties and responsibilities of counselors? Is vocational guidance receiving its proper emphasis? How well informed about vocations are the counselors and how …

The Organization Of A Guidance Program With Emphasis On Human Relations And Inclusion Of Human Relations Classes, Marian Wells Irwin
Graduate Student Research Papers
Guidance is the key to successful education. For maximum learning, growth, and development, the "spirit" of guidance must permeate the school board, the administration, and every aspect of the educational program. The subject of this research paper was selected for three reasons. First was the sense of responsibility toward children. It is the writer's firm conviction that without genuine Human Relations atmosphere some child is being deprived of his opportunity for complete development. Second was the earnest hope that this plan may, through the adoption of Human-Relations' principles, contribute toward the improvement of conditions in a specific school district. Third …

The Supervision Of The Guidance Program In A Small High School, John H. Clark
All Graduate Projects
The small high school has some problems to overcome in order to do an effective job in the guidance of its young people. It is difficult for the staff to find time for guidance activities in the busy schedule of today's curriculum. Released time is very necessary if effective counseling is to be done.
Another problan to be faced is the lack of trained personnel to head the guidance program. The high school principal must find a capable person or else head the program himself.
A third problem faced by the small high school is that of maintaining adequate records …

Evaluation Of Aspects Of The Guidance Programs In The Salt Lake City High Schools: An Opinion Survey, Liliuo Poulter
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A significant phase of the modern high school curriculum is the program of specialized guidance services to pupils. The importance of providing personalized services as a means of aiding individuals to grow toward social and occupational adequacy is becoming more and more definitely recognized by educators today. Monroe (1), in discussing the literature in this field, gives the following definition of personnel services:
"As differentiated from instruction and the business affairs... student personnel work refers to all activities undertaken or sponsored by an educational institution, aside from curricular instruction, in which the student's personal development is the primary consideration. Student …

Guidance has come to be an integral part of the whole program of the junior high school. It extends even farther. It reaches down into the sixth grade and looks forward into the senior high school and college. It is the whole business of the junior high school to take the individual where it finds him and guide him into the proper educational, social, and cultural channels.
