Education is one of the most vital components that compose a modern society and as such, its improvement and optimization is always sought. This study investigates the efficacy between two learning methods in a graduate level biochemistry course: complete active learning and a hybrid of active and passive learning. Active learning is one method of achieving course outcomes with an emphasis on student responsibility through self-studying of course material followed by classroom discussion. In comparison, passive learning emphasizes instructor responsibility through didactic lecturing of course material. The purpose of this study was to explore eighth grade students’ perception of a flipped classroom environment. It is difficult to engage and motivate eighth grade students. This study was created in order to determine if a flipped classroom would spark more interest and therefore eventually lead to an increased ability. More specifically, this study investigated how students perceive their learning is progressing in a flipped math classroom, and how engaged are they using the technology compared to the traditional classroom setting. This study was designed to examine the effects of the flipped classroom model. Our study was conducted in Physical Education, Mathematics, and Science classrooms in the Bismarck Public Schools district. The participants were in both the middle and high school levels within the same school district. Data collection methods included a pre-assessment survey, written assignments, a student behavior checklist, and a post-assessment survey. The results of our study showed that students enjoyed learning with the flipped classroom method, completion rates were higher than previously observed, and students were successful at mastering classroom content. The idea of the “flipped classroom” is a relatively new concept in education that has become increasingly popular. Instructors who flip their classrooms reverse the roles of school work and homework by recording video lectures for students to watch before coming to class. Students then work on their homework in the classroom while the instructor is present to help them. The current study investigated the use of technology, specifically flipped classroom practices, in a high school math classroom. This study took place in a rural Maine high school to discover what effects the flipped classroom would have on student achievement, student self-efficacy, and homework completion in an Algebra 2 course. The participants were 43 students, from 8th to 12th grader, in 5 Algebra 2 courses. The researcher compared performance on classroom assessments in both conditions and found no statistical significance on performance. This Inquiry Portfolio explores the efficacy of the “flipped classroom” format for university-level history courses for students, the professor, and the history department. While creating a clear outline of expectations, readings, examination and quiz requirements will allow the student to better organize their study time, I wanted to know if the “flipped format” would help my students master the knowledge, develop good discussion skills, and practice critical thinking skills learned during classroom discussions. Also, not having taught any flipped courses, I needed the experience to discuss cogently with my peers the desirability and practicality of offering flipped history courses.

Clinical pathways have been studied to promote best practices in nursing and enhance patient satisfaction. For 10 years a pediatric orthopedic surgical team at a Midwest hospital has not had a clinical pathway to treat or standardize care for adolescents following posterior spinal fusion surgery. Pain scores and patients' length of stay were collected using a retrospective chart review. This information was used to revise preoperative education materials and develop a visual poster.
