Classroom Management Students Observing Student Teachers: A Win-Win Combination, Donna R. Sanderson
Classroom Management Students Observing Student Teachers: A Win-Win Combination, Donna R. Sanderson
Essays in Education
Classroom management has long been a grave concern for pre-service teachers. This study explores a unique teaching assignment designed to enhance the learning opportunities of pre-service education students in two distinct ways. By one, bridging the reality-based world of the elementary classroom with the world of the pre-service teacher educator and two, by providing a glimpse into the mystique of the student teaching semester, pre-service educators confirmed that this observational assignment helped to prepare them to be future teachers on multiple levels. Twenty-seven pre-service elementary education students enrolled in a senior level, classroom management course participated in a field-based observational …
A Qualitative Study Of Effective School Discipline Practices: Perceptions Of Administrators, Tenured Teachers, And Parents In Twenty Schools., Faye Nelson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many educators and parents are gravely concerned about disorder and danger in school environments. In addition to school discipline issues, American classrooms are frequently plagued by minor infractions of misbehavior that disrupt the flow of classroom activities and interfere with learning.
The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate common threads of effective school discipline practices as perceived by administrators, tenured teachers, and parents in 20 schools in East Tennessee. I also attempted to determine if the views of administrators, tenured teachers, and parents are consistent with published research on school discipline practices. Data were collected from administrators, tenured …
Simplification And Personalization Of French Grammar, Regina Dee
Simplification And Personalization Of French Grammar, Regina Dee
MA TESOL Collection
The materials included in this project have been developed as a result of my emerging understanding of French grammar since I began studying it in 1976. I began teaching a French Activities class in 1986 to eighth graders at St. Andrews and third and fourth graders at an elementary school in Baltimore as a student at Morgan State University. While I was completing my student teaching at Baltimore City College Preparatory School, I found that my students had difficulties understanding textbook explanations. I therefore began to create my own explanations during sessions when students came for after school help. I …
Teaching Issues And Insights In Japanese High School, Robert H. Taferner
Teaching Issues And Insights In Japanese High School, Robert H. Taferner
MA TESOL Collection
This paper has emerged from a review of reflective teaching journals I kept during the interim year component of my Master of Arts in Teaching program. Through this review of my journals I identified five recurrent teaching issues that played a central role in my teaching over this year. In the paper I examine the areas of team teaching, feedback, student needs, discipline, and classroom management for insights and solutions that served me during the interim year and will be useful to me when I encounter similar situations in the future.
Development And Implementation Of A Program To Improve The Effectiveness Of Substitute Teachers., Connie E. Boutwell
Development And Implementation Of A Program To Improve The Effectiveness Of Substitute Teachers., Connie E. Boutwell
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The author developed a program to aid regular classroom teachers in development of lesson plans for substitute teachers and to assist the substitute teachers in the implementation of those plans. The program's objectives were to improve substitutes' performance, to have substitutes follow teacher's lesson and and leave summaries of their classroom activities for the regular teacher. The strategy was directed to the administrators, the classroom teachers and the substitutes. Substitutes were given information packets giving them directions concerning attendance and other school-wide policies. Teachers were given model lesson plans and suggestions. Administrators assessed evaluations of the substitutes by the teachers …
