In China, many teachers and parents concern that physical activities take too much time of students, which would negatively influence students’ academic performance and the inescapable pressure of schools to produce students who meet academic standards. Physical Activity, Academic Performance And Cognition In Children And Adolescents. A Systematic Review, Eero Hapala

A literature review was conducted to investigate the effect of physical exercise and physical training on cognition and academic performance in children and adolescents. Nine randomized or quasi-randomized controlled trials with 2,013 participants were identified by employing the following data sources: the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, Medline, Eric, CINAHL, PsychINFO, and ISI Web of Knowledge. Five studies indicated positive effects of physical exercise on attention, concentration, and working memory, and three studies reported positive effects of 14 to 64 week physical training on language and arithmetic skills. Past research has indicated promising results with mindfulness and mental health. This study examines the relationship between mindfulness and mental health, physical fitness, and academic performance for middle and high school students enrolled in health and physical education courses. The Calm app was utilized in part of the Calm Schools Initiative. (n.d.) as part of the intervention. This literature review evaluates how physical activity can improve student academic performance. Articles from the last decade provide strong evidence students, given access to physical activity, show improved academic performance. Physical activity improves the brain's functioning and different kinds of physical activity impact cognitive performance. Researchers acknowledged a strong correlation between physical activity and the development of overall wellness and academic confidence. Research also shows students with learning and cognitive disabilities benefit academically and behaviorally from physical activity. Physical activity is an essential element of the development of children and adolescents.

Students’ approaches to studying are generally viewed as essential for their learning outcomes and are often described as being either deep, strategic or surface. However, research on associations between study approaches and academic outcomes among occupational therapy students are rare, as are studies that include cross-cultural comparisons. Today students are expected to attend school for approximately eight hours, five days out of the week.
